Cheers,
Chevrolet cars are what were Daewoo's.
I had a Daewoo estate for a few months in 2009 when I needed a car for a short time and it was a good car until something broke.....
I then had a lot of hassle getting parts for it.
The newer Chevrolets might be better for parts and spares, but it would have to be a very very cheap car for me to buy one and even then I'd still have a niggling doubt in the back of my mind.
I'd definately do a bit of homework on parts and servicing before buying one.
Dogs arse, all of them. Don't do it to yourself.

Are they really THAT bad?? I appreciate the warning but can I ask if you've had 1st hand experience?

The parts and servicing bit was something to check out that's for sure, thanks for the info.
A mate bought a new one. My experience of trying a few was not good, they are not nice to drive, not well put together etc.
He ignored my advice. He got rid of it 4 months later.
Go read Honest John website.
DON'T DO IT!
I deal with Chevy warranty claims and to be fair we dont do many. Captive seem to get through shocks though.
I had a Daewoo for a while and was happy enough with it. Quite scarce for spares but I think Chevy sorted that (I sold the car 6 years ago for a polo which had far more problems)
Had a small one as a courtesy car. Very plasticky and cheap feel to it. The Hyundai i10 was much better
the new Camaro is nice

We have chevy matiz as courtesy cars at work.
3 out of the 4 needed new axles just after warranty was up. To be fair, chevy did replace them. But shortly after, the rear wheel bearings went.
Oh and there was a slight parts issue to I think.
Technically, they never actually broke down though! Also bear in mind this model is really a tarted up daewoo!
I thought my Nubira estate was pretty good, although I did only pay £350 for it with 30'000 miles on it. It even had air-con and I could never have got a Focus or Astra in the same condition for the money.
The parts problem was a hassle though, it took 6 weeks to get the car back on the road after it broke.
If it would have been a more expensive car, I'd have been a bit cheesed off; but cheap cars are always a gamble.
i had a chevrolet tacuma for a while, bought it because it had plenty of room inside and it was reasonably priced.
i got rid of it because it was in the highest tax band, something i had not checked before buying it
It is amazing how far back the Daewoo designs go. The first model out in the UK was the Nexia which was based on a Mk 1 astra (in the UK) but looked a lot like the Mk2 astra which was based on the same platform:

Mk2 Astra:
It was their 3rd iteration of the Mk1 Astra platform: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daewoo_Nexia
and then the Lanos continued with it!
Their larger car at the time was based on the old cavalier platform: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daewoo_Espero

Unbelievably old platforms!
But I guess they were recycling tooling and parts would be easier than you think to get. Except body parts.
The newers ones have been thankfully updated. They are probably decent cars (based on what platforms they use) but the resale values are just shocking and the finishing of the build may not be up to other standards.
Things like the Kia C'eed and Suzuki Swift would be a better buy IMO.
If you want a car thats hard to get parts for and something fails on it weekly, buy an alfa 156 at least you'd look good at the side of the road
Never had any problems getting bits for either of my Alfas but then again, they have never needed anything bar normal service items.
Don't - Buy one & then try to sell it!!!!!
or better still stick your money in a drain - same thing.
