Flicking through paperwork related to our house, it seems like we might own more than we thought.
Basically, we own the house, and the plot next to it (which makes for a large garden). This is clearly marked on various bit of paperwork. However, when we bought the house everything got tied up while we were waiting for something from the commonwealth bank of australia, from flicking through more paperwork, it seems that the bank of australia own the ginnel (snicket/path/passage) that runs between our boundary fence and next doors house (divided into flats).
This little path is not maintained, and the house next door doesn’t use it, but local fly tippers/teenage smokers use the path to get to the over grown gardens at the back. The police have told us that they would lie to build a big metal fence over the end.
Now, how do I find out if we own this? My thoughts are go to a solicitor, but obviously this will cost… Is there a central record I can access? If it was ours, it would only add, maybe 1.5m by 10m and involve knocking down a significant, but ugly wall, but it might be nice to have even more space!
