Life was simple runing 8 speed, every year I used to fit SRAM PC68. Nice silver chain, tough and sensible price.

Now I have had to change to 9 speed because I couldn't get a replacement 8 speed XTR cassette I am overwhelmed by what chain to use?

What's everyone using?

PC991, easy to clean as its got a powerlink, but they don't last that long.

you're going to get a reccomend for every chain out there…

i use KMC X9 at the mo – shifts better from new than SRAM IME. Don't know about durability, but it's going well so far.

Hey TFG, I looked at PC991 but there is the cross step and hollow pin versions or is it the basic 991 that you are using?

I just use the basic 991, I have had a cross step last year when prices were cheaper but didn't find the extra strength was worth the money. Never tried the hollow pin as I'm a 16 stone chap and I would worry about it snapping!
