    ….. with an otherwise 9 speed drivetrain? (chain, cassette, mechs etc?

    I want to use a 10sp 105 crankset on an otherwise 9sp tiagra bike.

    yes, and if you believe the hyperbole from Shimano, the rings are closer together to make shifting betterer
