My money’s on it being the fizz he was drinking. Must’ve gone to his head, poor dear.

Monumentally knucle-bitting arse-clenching to watch though.

Saw a thread earlier and didn’t pay much attention but just saw it on the news. What a knob

You know, as much as it pains me to say it, this ‘gaffe’ actually makes me warm to him a tiny bit. You know, like from Norway in the depths of winter, to maybe, northern Greenland in March.

He is kind of right, after all.

I dunno. The way he says it, it’s really forced and unnatural- it doesn’t feel like a slip of the tongue, it feels like he had to make a real effort to say it. But why? Can’t see any advantage to it.

Is fantastiacally a pretentious version of fantastically that politicians use?

Very stupid thing to be caught saying but given that Buhari ran and came to power on exactly the same point, it’s not far off the truth. Buhari views it as his central mission, to tackle widespread corruption. Shame that much of his good intentions are being overrun by the collapse in oil and the Naira.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Muhamadu Buhari, has pledged to do everything within his powers to end corruption and insurgency get the country working again, if elected on February 14.

Buhari spoke on Tuesday to over 40,000 supporters at the APC official flag-off of the presidential campaign in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

He told the people that his interest “is for the nation to be free from the current calamities.”

The former Head of State assured Nigerians: “I will ensure that there is no room for corruption and insurgency in the country. We will assemble a team of professionals in the country to ensure job creation, wealth and security for the betterment of the country.

He also told the Queen that the Pope is a catholic – statement of the bleeding obvious by any measure.

    I don’t get it.

Surely getting an invitation to attend the summit is an implicit accusation that corruption is an issue in your country….. and accepting that invitation is an implicit acknowledgement? Who is offended here?

I’m offended the sheer hypocrisy – there are two sides to corruption, the corrupter and the corruptees. One criticizing the other is a bit f*cking rich.

Am I missing something here? International anti-corruption summit, leaders of some “fantastically corrupt countries” invited, so that leaders of the international community can discuss the issue and support those with greater problems
DC hasn’t criticised their leaders, he’s invited leaders that are actively fighting acknowledged corruption in their countries

It’s all about how you phrase it, they are not corrupt but integrity depleted/challenged same as we are not allowed to point at fat people any more.

It’s good to be honest at these things, unless the first seminar was about how to structure bribes and hide payments…

I heard that the Nigerians fiddle their election expenses – fantastically corrupt!

    Pot calling kettle black IMO.

What is perhaps pertinent here is that the filming was done by the Palaces’ own tv crew and production team, who knowingly released this clip to the world media.

Perhaps the royal household have also had enough and putting in place the first steps of their own coup?

And if that doesn’t make you think… Then Eurovision will…

It’s a disgrace! Mr Tombatuu the Nigerian businessman who contacted me the other week has been nothing short of honest, upstanding and courteous. He’s even offered to let me hold some of his money in my bank account. Shame more people aren’t like him!

Not often I’d side with Dave but I don’t see what the fuss is about either. They are fantastically corrupt countries. Pretending that they are not is hardly the best approach at a conference on corruption.

them Chinese are rude as well. They offended the ambassador, according to the queen. How rude!

True but snickering about it in typical Lord Snooty style is not the best way to bring the issue up.

Did you watch the actual clip Dr?

All seems a slightly awkward conversation noteworthy mainly for the balanced intervention of Welby. If there was a real tit there it was unsurprisingly Berkow.

What’s the issue? Both leaders of the countries named admit their countries are corrupt and they want help.

They are having a meeting this week to discuss it, if nothing else Dave brought some publicity to something that otherwise would have not made the press, after all the Dail Mail only want to report negative news.

As others have said, hardly news.

I’m very surprised that this, and the Chinese comments, have been made public. Surely politicians and heads of state should be able to have conversations without it being front page “news”? What are the rules of engagement for this cameraman?

But Cameron is right. As an example of the depth of the corruption that is ruining Nigeria, there is virtually no public electricity supply. Lagos has a population of around 16 million yet it has a generating capacity for about half a million. It’s widely believed this is because certain ministers receive a commission on the sale of every generator sold in Nigeria and hence there is no incentive for the government to invest in public electricity generation.

My colleague in Lagos celebrates if he gets an hour a week of “light” and spends a fortune on diesel for his gen. The massive extra cost cost kills businesses, the fluctuations and outages wreck your electrical equipment and “no light” is the excuse for any public servant who can’t be bothered to do the job.

Cameron’s only mistake was to say it in public.

Clumsy to discuss near cameras, but it’s stating the obvious. I’m not enraged.

How blue tinged are your glasses – even the archbishop challenged him on what he said.

Its one of those statements we could all make but a “world statesman “before a conference on the issue should have had the sense and diplomacy to keep his gob shut.

GIven the UK and tax havens and his reluctance, PR spin aside, to do anything about it it was also astoundingly hypocritical

We are not corrupt we just profit from everyone elses corruption and keep the transactions secret.

Did you watch the actual clip Dr?

He just lacks your self referenced political neutrality.

Cameron should be critisized for making such a bland statement, no great revelation and hardly incisive. Reminds me of that Morecomb and Wise sketch,

    Name: David Cameron

I am just glad we have a PM who has lived in the real world before becoming a career politician 😉

I’m no Dave fan but occasionally even he makes sense. Though perhaps he could look a bit closer to home for where these corrupt foreigners hide their money in plain sight. Fantastic for London of course!

Dave didn’t say this in public, Buhari does and regularly. It was part of the latter’s election case

    Perspective?

OH THM Your attempt to spin to defend him is endearingly neutral 😆
He said it in front of a camera that was recording…if you wish to term this not in public then the very best of luck persuading folk to this view, you are going to need it what with the facts just not supporting this.

She didn’t make comments about the Chinese – she described the behaviour of some Chinese officials towards the ambassador.

Both stories typify how the desperate need for 24 hour news strains common sense and basic rational thought.

we’ll be having Bojo on next talking about tobacco or bullfighting…(and lying about the cost of EU membership)

Right, he was jus’ chillin’ with Her Madge and the Rev Canterbury. How much more public can you friggin’ get?

The crowds were enormous Doc, true….they are releasing the script at 13:00 today on the BBC News in case anyone missed it. Jeremy Kyle starts on ITV soon too for the froth seekers and cerebrally challenged

How much more public can you get? Obvious answer, a very great deal.

Skinny lattes all round, except in Bercow’s case

Out of interest, are you attending the summit with the rest of the public?

I really don’t think anyone (sensible) is claiming that Nigeria and Afghanistan are low-corruption countries and that Cameron is being unfair to them with his comments.

Whether it’s appropriate for the PM of the country hosting the anti-corruption summit to be making those comments with the Head of State (gawblesser) and the Archpriest of the state sanctioned fairy-tale cult while being filmed and recorded is what’s in question. IMO, while not exactly the sin of the century, it’s a bit stupid to be talking so loosely – does nothing to get the leaders of those countries on one’s side, alienates them further and allows them to go back to their people saying that the white man still thinks they’re just a bunch of piccaninnies who can’t be trusted to manage their own affairs – look, the PM said it to the Queen. This is the power of words and why they should be chosen carefully.

I don’t know why anyone would be trying to swing it round to simply defending the veracity of what he said – it’s like some people have an agenda or something. Christ on a bike, I can only imagine the right-wing-nut-job circle jerk we’d be having this morning if Corbyn uttered something similar.

Cameron “worked” in PR – yet every so often he makes gaffes like these – it’s almost as if he was employed in spite of his skills, not because of them. Although I’m sure all those firms never employ mates and sons of mates and same-school-tie-wearing individuals because of who they are, not what they can do. Those days are long gone.
