Apologies in advance for the subject of this post…it's a "what tyre" question.

About to put some rigid forks on my steed and was just wondering what size tyre other ridid riders use on the front for a bit of squidgyness so the wrists don't shatter but to still maintain some form of control.

Any pointers would be welcome. Apologies again for the "what tyre" subject!

Depends … owt from 2.1 – 2.5

It depends on the terrain you're riding and what you can fit on the rim etc.

I've got a Bonty 2.35" on the front at the moment which is pushing it as the rim only supposed to take a 2.1" max.

Racing Ralph 2.4 in summer, WTB Stout 2.3 in winter. (29er though)

What ever is lying around in the shed that's not knackered usually 1.9/2.1

2.35 or 2.4 for me.

kenda 8block 2.1s on mine but they're at 35-40psi so not very squidgy.

whatever is on special offer.. I've got quite tight rims too so nothing over 2.2

IME width isn't as important as carcass. A thicker sidewall allows you to run lower pressures with less risk of puncturing, less pogoing and better stability in turns. A DH tyre in the 2.0-2.4 range is usually good for the front.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have a look at the "whatever's on offer" option as money's tight.

Riding in the peak district (Sheffield side) so "mixed" terrain I'd say.

run 2.0 at the moment as they were cheap. Seem ok, think 2.3 would be nice in the peaks if frame and forks allow.

last time I ran fixed it was 2.25 minimum

I think gloves make a big difference. Propper nice roadie mitts is what you need for fixed.
