   A friend of mine has a pair of OEM 2011 Fox Float 32's. There is lots of green oil up the left hand stansion that appeared after the last ride. The bike and forks are only 4 months old. The LBS that the bike was purchased from have suggested that it may be because my friend has not lifted and inspected the dust wipers every 20 hours and may have to pay for the repair.
   Is this likely or is this a potentially more serious warranty issue? Or even a not so serious warranty issue?

   My 2006 32 Vanilla's have only been serviced once, ever, and are still tip top. I certainly dont lift and inspect the dust wipers every 20 hours, more like once a year. They do get cleaned and visually inspected from the outside regularly but thats it.

   sounds like a lack of maintinence. the foam seals have run dry causing dirt etc to get in and damage the wiper seal.
   a lift and clean of the wiper seals is in order - this is essential otherwise you'll end up with the stantions starting to wear away.

   you need to get in a routine and do this.

   It sounds to me like the wiper seals are worn. Mine did this until I replaced then and they've been ok since.
   It sounds like they havent lasted very long though!
   Oh and I dont lift the wipers either!

   I have the same forks (2010) & called by my LBS to see if they needed a service last week as they feel a bit sticky. He looked at them & said no, just do it all together - seals, oil change etc.

   Sounds like a warranty issue. 20 hrs interim service you'd be in LBS every week.

   That is the advice from Fox, and even if you do it they'll cry off warranty replacements on worn CSUs.

   DIY, it's pretty straightforward.

   Thanks guys. Sounds like I need to look after mine a bit better as well then.

   Does this generally apply to all forks and not just Fox?

   I think fox have now increased the period of service intervals on the newer models due to having better seals...

   Worth doing on all forks, but not as important as on Fox.

   Hmmm, got me worried now, haven't touched wiper seals/foam rings since new. Anyone care to describe how to do a 'lift wiper seals and inspect' service so I can get onto it before the next ride? Ta...

    Eeek - that looks like more than a five minute job! Thought we were just talking prising up the wiper seals with a screwdriver and squirting a bit of oil on the foam rings. Might be a job to save til the weekend then..

    lifting the seals doesnt really, you need to remove the lowers and service them that way.

    I used to lift the seals on mine every 3/4weeks but the stancions wore lower down where i couldn't see it with just a seal lift.

    also it helps to store the bike upside down this will help with keeping the foam seal fresh.
    I tend to keep the bike upside down in the van on my way to a ride
