Isp is talk talk and I’m running a ad sl x modem into apple time capsule to create my wireless network. Just this week the speed has gone down from 6 to 2 meg. Have changed micro filter and tested up to the BT box but can’t find the cause. Could it be the router? Time for a newy?

I suspect the answer is contained within the first four words of your post.

Have you reboooted the router / modem (don’t know much about Apple, sorry)?

How are you measuring the speed?

How have you “tested up to the BT box”, what do you mean?

Thanks. By testing I mean removing all other devices and linking router by cat5 to the laptop. Ive also reset devices back to factory settings. If it is talk talk, can they alter the broadband coming so it’s faster?

    Good first step.

Is the router connected to the master socket?

At the risk of repeating myself, how are you measuring the speed?

Using speedtest.net and talk talks own speed meter, both giving same readings of 2 meg or less

    What is BRAS failure?

Using speedtest.net and talk talks own speed meter,

Both of those will measure speed at the PC, not line speed. What’s the router say?

BRAS failure in tt network has caused issues

Google would suggest there’s instances of Talk Talk randomly capping the line for gits and shiggles, so yeah, it could be a BRAS profile problem.

What did India have to say?

India was a mixed bag. One tried to fob me off with “engineers working in the area”. Finally after persistence got one of em to reset my profile. I then went and bought new net gear router as well and now getting 6mbps. Talktalk just totally random and you’ve got to perist

My BT line would drop its speed on sensing a reboot or disconnection to maintain a reliable slower link than a faster link. The BT enginner did all line testing and in theory max speed was possible but in practice it didn’t work.

Occasionally maintenance would disrupt connection totally.

I changed to virgin and cable.
