Martin want's to ride at AC tomorrow (again), but I want to do something steep. I'm told the picnic bench in LW is a good place to start. But where do I find it?

Is Leigh Woods open to bikers yet? I thought it wasn't until November sometime?

I know the clixby trail is not open yet but is the entire wood is closed? Seems a bit ott to me.

Leigh woods has never closed - it's just the new build trails aren't open yet.

Theres a trail on the opposite side of the picnic bench gully that finishes in the same place at the bottom. Should be an interesting one today, i slid down it last week and it wasn't as wet as it is today!

There are two trails that come out on the opposite side of the of the gully. The one nearest the river is the Knicker Trail, the one further up the hill I don't know the name of - that can be very slippery on the off camber end section.
The Picnic Bench is good but the new lines that have been made of the past 2 years have spoilt it a bit. BTW Buzz the Picnic Bench is straight down the rooty bit with a smoother option two the right. The trail starting to the left is a nice option with a rocky start then some faster more open switchbacks, again I'm not sure what it's called.Posted 8 months ago # -
Teehee, it'll be fun now the rain has come!
Whilst jolly steep with a decidedly flaky surface, there are better trails around IMO. Picnic bench looses ones height very quickly. Always nice to say you've done it though.

Ha we could not drag ourselves away from AC/50-acre and it was bucketing down with rain. Another time. Tell you what - I reckon AC is even faster in the rain.
It was very pleasing to see families and kids enjoying the AC trail, even though they held us up a little, usually with Dad fretting at the back, we didn't care and just yelled encouragement.
Two 15yo kids taunted us on the gravel climb, then raced us (and gracefully lost) which was a laugh - dead keen they were. So much nicer to see this sort of thing than the usual lycra'd up folks taking it, and themselves, so very seriously.
