I've inherited a pocket watch. It needs a clean, repair and valuation. I have no experiance of jewellers other than the purchase of stuff that looks nice for the GF. I have absolutely no idea where to take it, other than an inkling that most high street jewellers will not know WTF to do with it.

A quick google brought up a list of super specialist pocket watch guys, of which there are about a dozen in the country. their services may be a little OTT, as I'm not sure its anything that special.

    Any suggestions?

Sounds like something an antiques dealer might be able to advise you on, and perhaps recommend a repairer. Valuations can be done by auction houses too.

i'd be tempted to go into the vintage jewellery shop/stall in st nicks market and ask them for advice, much more likely to be able to help than a high street type jewellers.

Dragon Workshop in Clifton would be my starter-for-10 – he may not be able to do the watch repair himself, but I'm 99% sure he'd 'know a man' who does.

If you don't want to pay fancy prices, try Ken Ford on Gloucester rd, just about opposite Somerfield. He's proper old skool watch repair man he is.

Kemp Brothers in Broadmead are a very long established (decades) and reputable firm doing classy jewelery etc. You could seek there advice as they have a good reputation and are a family firm.
