I'm after some new bottle cages for my road bike. Was originally after some more Rib Cages but I don't like the new style as miuch as the old one so had a gander at fleabay. Anybody tried the cheap carbon fibre ones before? Don't know if they would be any cop or not? Any opinions?

The best cage i've had (no bottles falling out, nothing breaking and fairly light) has been a cheap plastic zefal one, only cost about £4. Maybe i was just unlucky with carbon ones but they both broke within about a years use.

Tesco, are about £3 for a plastic one. Ive use them for ages and I havent lost my bottle.

Mt Zoom Ti ones are excellent, although more than £3!
More suited to us ham-fisted riders than the carbon ones thoughPosted 8 months ago # -
elite cages. can be bent a bit to hold bottles more or less firmly. cheap and also look nice.

The robustness of the carbon cages was my main worry. They would be going on a road bike so wouldn't be susceptible to the crap that my rib cages have endured over the years. The elite Custom race cages were another choice

If you're worried about the weight of cheap bottle cages, have a mouthful of drink before you set off and the combined bottle and cage be similar to if you had a carbon cage and a full bottle.

Shedful- I have the Spesh ones at the moment on the mtb but I couldn't find the older style anywhere and I don't like the new ones as much.

I use the Spesh one that shedful has linked to and it works great.

+1 for the Spesh rib cage ones. I use them on my road and MTB bikes and they are great. They dont damage the bottles either like a lot of other ones do
