Yeah I like the idea of the ST4 as I really want something with just a bit of bounce in the back not a Demo 8. Plenty of time to think yet as the cash isn't there just yet.
I want something like the Kobe but with some spring in the back to pre-load and take the bite out of it a bit. Just a bit more fun and maybe faster.
Fives are soooo heavy.
Like how heavy exactly? (depending on which one ovbiously)

As I have previously posted on the BLT2 I know you think I'm biased, but listening to your needs, why not try and have a look at the Cotic Hemlock. If you are a long term hard tailer then you will enjoy it more than either the SC or the O5. Singletrack raved about the hemlock. Trouble might be getting hold of a demo, but just call Cotic, they always seem happy to help. On other demos, I know you can get demo bikes from Pedal and spoke at peaslake in the Surrey hills. Not so sure where to go
For an orange demo in that area, but the Surrey hills really helped me to choose my current bike(blt2). I would get a mate to go with you, hire both bikes in the correct size for you( very important for blur, and also make sure shock pressure is in the zone for the blur, and then go and ride the same trails on the different bikes.
TBH it always surprised me when LBS's expect you to part with a large amount of wonga based upon faith alone...
oxnop, no wonder you struggled on the five, that stems waaaay too long!! get a five, defo better than blur, infact you wont get a better bike if you like your riding rad! but those who dont like them are'nt getting the full use out of them! 
How did you end up with those two as the final choice? Very different bikes with one being single pivot and the other VPP. You really, really need to get out on both on a test ride to decide.
Had my LT2 for 2.5 years and can't fault it. Great climber, totally confidence inspiring on the descents. No problems at all with the pivots - grease gun on the nipples once a month and a tweak with an allen key on the top pivots twice a year. I get bored with anything very quickly but haven't even thought about changing it as I can't think of anything that would be better - well except the carbon version. Here's mine

I got a second hand Prophet. £500 for a MX version, it is great and was great in the Alps this summer and is fantastic in the forest here in Sweden. Buy cheap, buy second hand. To bad thing is that I can't justify getting another bike now.
