Which should I save up for? Both sound great and perfect for the kind of riding I do (or want to when I get back into it).
I'd imagine the results will be more Orange 5... it is kind of ugly though.

Blur LT2 is fantastic! I also have a pal who has both, and much prefers the Blur, although his is a Blur not a 2 or an LT....son on the face of it maybe not so much help?
BLT2 would be my first choice though....every time!
blur's are ace. guy i go riding with has a five and i definitely prefer the blur. we have them set quite differently though. both are very, very good bikes. five is perhaps better for a more xc focus.
Has AndyRT says what version? Best get a test ride on both
and find out for yourself.
Chutney il thought the Blur is a better climber and for XC
you might be right, my mate's five is set up more for xc so my opinion is tainted by that. it's a nice choice to be making though, regardless.
What kind of riding do you do? My five is setup for light DH/FR and aggressive natural trails and it suits me perfect. Its quite an adaptable bike and not limited to one specific area.
Snap Carbon
Any excuse for a Five photo thread:

Ugly? I don't think so. This is my 2005 Pro-Hope model. Still my main ride.
@Carl, thought you were getting them wheels wrapped up for santy
I was....but it was a quiet day at work today so thought bugger it and put it together. Gave it a polish too and ordered some 2011 swingarm graphics.
I'll email you about weekend
Looks spot on mate!
Any excuse indeed!

Won't be changing mine for a long time cos it's Awesome.
well why not,
Turner 5 spot all day long...
Just about to get my LT carbon, if it's as good as my last two Blur's I'll be a happy man. If you are looking for a good deal on a new Blur, mail me
May be fighting a losing battle here, but...
not so mate it's just they can't afford a blur?

just sold my 2010 meta 55 frame to buy this one.and it's brill !!!!!
The difference between a Blur & the Orange isn't that much in terms of $$$. Think the Orange looks purposeful but not pretty. Maybe without graphics and in baby blue. Worth test riding them both I reckon.
Want something for trail centres, alps, surrey hills, swinley, bit of all really.
Buy British!
For trail centres you're best looking at hardtail
I have a hardtail thanks. I want a full suss.
aggressive natural trails
What that...?
Anyhow, best go try 'em before buying 'em. And another vote for a 5 Spot if that helps any confusion.
buy tiwanese they ride better ! (just havin a jest about the cost)we all love our own bikes that's why wev'e got em.what one loves, someone else hates! ride em and enjoy them. btw just realised I've bought a santacruz bacon lettuce tomato 2
coogan - natural trails very loose peat and soil and very steep. Come and give it a try - your welcome. Not your trail centre stuff..
Well see that I understand. Sounds like good stuff. Nice assumption though...
I've got an aluminium LT2 and think its a superb bike, usually I get bored of bikes quickly but I haven't even looked at another bike to replace the blur. I've never ridden a 5 but know a few people who have them and rate them.
While people are at it

Ok this looks a lot different now. many different parts are on there now, and she has a grimier quality to her. But still rides great.
My pal tried this and a Blur LT back to back.. and prefered the 5.. and he really wanted a Blur LT.
I just wanted a bike that would get me there and bring me home
Best of Three
I had the one on the left for a long time but was too much bike. Want something nippier and throwaboutable. One on the right looks nice.
Ive had both:

The Blur is better IMO. The orange tended to feel too much sometimes and I always found it a bit 'wooden' - like the rear shock was over damped to stop single pivot induced bob.
The blur feels bigger when it needs to be but smaller too (if you get my drift
) plus I run the blur at 150mm on the front all the time and never miss uTurn or Talas.
My GF loved her LT2 (until it was nicked) and my mate bought a new LT2 the day he had a go on the GF's bike.

If you can afford it go for the LTc, best bike purchase i've ever made! Oh and with an 'uppy downy' seatpost, flat pedals, coil shock and extra heavy DH tubeless tyres it only weighs 31lbs.
Sorry to hijack, but oxnop, how do you get on with the coil shock on your blur? I have just the monarch on mine and find it isn't that plush over small stuff but still blows through the travel on g-outs etc. I wondered about a RC4, Double Barrel etc or just a RP23. Your blur is the only one i've seen with a coil.
Fives are soooo heavy. Blur every time - more efficient pedaling, super plush descending, one of the stiffest frames out there and so light too. Also, a whole load prettier too, especially in the new lime green colour.
I was at Llandegla last saturday for their demo day.
I took an orange five out with longish forks 150mm fox talas ( i think) solid ride no problems
Got back and swapped it for a blur lt2...honestly its setup was effin awful, the tyres were garbage sliding round allover the place, brake levers set up so i had no grip on the bars or no finger wrapped round the brake lever. I am only a shortie was on a small, and the top tube was far too short for me. The frame was great and a solid feel but not the bike for me. The woman who took it for a spin before me complained about it too.
I am now biased towards a yeti asr5 alloy....which hopefully santa will be leaving me.
Hmmm a tough one Andy.
Geometry wise, the BlurLT is similar-ish to the Heckler you had many moons ago (obviously the suspension is very different). The Orange is slacker and longer... so I reckon the SC will feel a bit nippier/more flickable for general UK duties, but possibly a bit more nervous than the Five in the Alps.
You could also look at the new ST4 which is still slack enough, but a bit shorter rear travel (nice rising rate travel though). Someone did well in the Trans-Provence on a new ST4 this year, so it can cope perfectly well with the Alps
