Roll ’em out! Let’s hear some of those blues inspired riff-tastic rawk tunes!

Starting off with the That Little Ol’ Band from Texas, Are you ready for ZZ Top? By God are you gettin’ ’em! Ladies and gents, the fantastic ZZ TOP!

And, how about something from a more recent era?

Blues rock = music for 40+ year old bores in leather waistcoats, some of whom have horrible little pony tails, the rest of whom wished they had enough hair for a horrible little pony tail.

    IMHO, of course 🙂

Not 40+. Don’t own a leather waistcoat. Have plenty of hair, but not even the slightest thought of a ponytail.

Stop being so bloomin’ ageist Nettles. 🙄

Cap’n – good choice of Joe who most definitely isn’t over 40 years old

See, I was right about the waistcoats. Unless you’re working as a blacksmith, its not a good look

    Don’t own a leather waistcoat

Admit it though, you secretly want one…

Blues rock (done well) = music that still has some hair on its balls, unlike so much of the over-produced, contrived metrosexual pish that gets released in the name of rock these days…

I would recommend some Black Diamond Heavies, but I’ve only just bought the CD and haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet.

Why have I never heard of the Black Keys until now? Wow!

    Off to HMV tomorrow then!

The Primevals used to be my fave band. Can’t believe they’re on Youtube!

Then Jon Spencer Blues Explosion came along… AFRO!

Captainflashheart, be wary of the most recent two Black Keys albums (Attack and Release and Brothers) both have their moments but neither are a patch on Rubber Factory or Magic Potion.

Chulahoma is great as well, especially if you like your Junior Kimbrough.

Wish I had sound on my computer so I could listen to the links above. Can anyone comment on the Oblivians or the Reigning Sounds? Amazon seems to be trying to hawk them to me but I haven’t heard anything.

Apart from Rory Gallagher…..Blues rock is s**t,music to listen to in a company car, generic pulp for the emotionally and musically immature to listen to and the umimaginative hackneyed and cliched to play, think it makes them “quirky” and read graphic novels, probably wet the bed in their teens as well. Imho anyway, yours may differ 🙂

So you accept that some blues rock is good?

Would it upset you to learn that the only blues rock I like which has been recommended by my 60 year old, Clapton listening father is… Rory Gallagher?

I accept the cliche argument, but that’s because its A)Good and B)Old. Of course its going to become cliche.

    Jah…

I don’t think you can class someoneone like Stevie Ray Vaughn as
“generic pulp for the emotionally and musically immature to listen to and the umimaginative hackneyed and cliched to play”

like everything there is a lot of copycat ****.. it ain’t called a 12 bar shuffle for nothing.

Hell, even my kids (in their 20’s) like Hendrix!

Agree with Martyn. SRV – what a talent.

Of course I can, because it is. it’s no more or less generic than any pub band, the only real difference with srv is that he put more pratice in, but it’s still an essentially turgid and creatively bankrupt genre.

    🙂

“Would it upset you to learn that the only blues rock I like which has been recommended by my 60 year old, Clapton listening father is… Rory Gallagher?” ……Er no but I’m not really sure why it should upset me ?

    Nettles is being terribly cynical!

What harm are old boys/girls doing? Sometimes we take the pi** with the youngsters!

Polite request: can we have the smiley’s back, I really don’t want to upset anyone on here.

Edit: I need my bed, can’t last the pace ahem!
