Why did they get rid of the old Multimap and why on why have the OS maps gone now ?

click the dropdown where it says london street map.

They're still there, you just have to zoom in to the correct level to display them...
EDIT: after selecting OS maps from the menu

They haven't, the OS map is still an option. Only visible as OS at certain zoom levels though.
Click the drop down menu where it says 'London Street Map' (now top left of map), choose OS and zoom until you get an OS map.

use streetmap.co.uk where they have 1:50k and 1:25k OS maps when zoomed at the right level.
use magic.gov.uk for 1:10,000 and 1:5,000
