   I am looking at getting a Carry Freedom Y Frame trailer.

   I don't have a car, and want to use it to lug camping gear and clothes to places to ride my mountain bike, like trail centres and the like, leaving it in my tent while I ride. It would also be used for general dogs bodying around town, like carrying bags of compost, wood, and whatever.

   I'm trying to decide whether to go for the large 90kg capacity one or the small 45kg one. Having never owned a trailer I don't really know how much I would carry, and whether I would regret not having the extra capacity of the large or not.

   I'd really appreciate anyone's experiences with any bike trailers. Thanks.

   90 kg is a hell of a lot of kit to pull about, 45 would be plenty

   90kg would be like riding a tandem with someone not pedalling on the back imagine how that would feel .45kg would be fine

   Well, I imagined I would never fill the large up, but maybe it would only take one occasion when I needed more space/weight to really annoy me?

   if riding off-road the two wheeled trailers can be a little unstable in comparison to a BOB Yak/Edinburgh one-wheeled trailer. i've seen it before where one wheel catches and the trailer jumps/tries to flip.

   a BOB can carry 30kg (as said, 45 should be big enough) and tracks behind the rear wheel very well.

   I don't think I would use it off road, just on the road to get to good off road. I think any trailer would ruin my fun off road.

   Do you also own a folding bike?
   If so, look at the Carry Freedom City which folds and is excellent.

   Unless you have specific load-lugging requirements I'd go for the 45kg trailer - when shopping for a family of four I run out of space before I run out uumph.

   I own a CF City trailer which is fantastic. I would say if you plan on hauling garden waste, building materials etc go for the big Y-frame, if you are living in a flat/house with limited storage space go for the city else go for the wee Y-frame.

   You'll love having a trailer. It's amazing the weight of stuff you can cart around with very little effort!

    Thanks everyone.

    How do you find the large hitman? Too big?

    I've been phoning around shops and it seems the small Y Frame is out of stock everywhere - bugger!

    read yr post again - go for the large
    you can carry much more stuff but its only a kg heavier
    better quality materials
    also quick and easy to dismantle and store in your tent

    The City has a super sexy fold, but in reality the Y Frame packs up just as small, the wheels pop off with little quick release buttons and the towing arm can remove too. Although the big and small versions are described as 90 and 45kg respectively the small is actually stronger, its just that something that heavy and small enough to fit on the trailer isn't really something a cyclist is likely to travel with.

    I use the small for touring duties and opted for that with a view to packing onto trains and planes with minimum fuss and as a way of forcing me to limit what I pack. However for general dogs body/alternative-to-a-car duties the large is probably a wiser investment. Both are sized to work with either standard eurobox sizes and also with Ortlieb rack-packs, and having a wooden load bed to can strap/screw/bolt anything you like onto them.

    Yeah, I think I'm going to go for the large hitman, as that's the only one in stock anywhere. I've sort of decided that if it is too big, then it's never going to lose that much value and I can swap it for a small, or, more likely I will love being able to carry loads of stuff on it!
