Need a diagnosis by the STW “drop-in therapy centre”:

Hi my name is Foxyrider and I think I am addicted to building up bikes.

My list in order of acquisition (most recent first):

Feb 2011: Road Bike: Frame upgrade – carbon
Aug 2010: Road Bike: 2nd hand commuter Ribble (v. cheap from a mate)
Feb 2010: MTB: Frame Upgrade Kinesis XCPro3 HT
    Jan 2008: Orange 5 FS

I ride all these at least once a week (honestly) but I have found a new frame and it fills a niche (100mm FS XC bike).

However while I am still able to do this any reason I should not enjoy another bike? I guess I have got it bad and I think I have the bike addiction but from my years on STW I don’t think 4 decent bikes in the garage is excessive?

Please help in an attempt if will make me feel I am not the only one? 🙂

You think you’ve got it bad? I’m thinking about buying a new bike just so I have something to look at for the next 4 weeks until I’m out of plaster.

LOL – What about the new Ribble Sportive? 😉 How come your in plaster (not been paying attention recently RealMan )

4 bikes in three years, blimey you’re well behaved.

I’ve owned 11 frames in the past 3 years (still have 7 of them) and probably built them up into about 15 different combinations of frame/fork/wheels/gears.

I’ve got 2 frames not built up currently which is an itch I’m trying not to scratch as the 5 full bikes really cover most of my needs.

I need some botom bracket bearings for my second mountain bike. They’re not available for 6 weeks but only about £40. Because of this, I’m now sniffing at a new chainset instead (XT or XTR, neither of which I can really afford).

3 new bikes in the past year, 5 in the past 2, spare bedroom is overflow for spare frames (3) as the shed is heaving 🙂

Well I recently got some bling wheels for the ribble, and I quite like the frame so haven’t thought about changing it. I really need a new bmx, and wiggle currently have a deal going on something very nice.. But long term I’m thinking about getting a dh bike, or at least a 160mm+ full sus. Haven’t had a new bike in almost a year now..

Currently in plaster as I’ve broken my right arm in two places when I binned it on that table out at haldon cafe side (biggest crashes always happen on the easy things..).

Oh, and I also want a new unicycle. I’m bored of my 20.

1991 to 2005 one Trek 950 from new.
2006 – Scott Yecora s/h from ebay just so I could have front sus for Mountain Mayhem & found STW whilst looking for results.
2006 – 2011 at least 20 different frames & builds trying to find my “ideal bike” 🙄
2011 – just asked my mate if I can have my Trek 950 back 😯

Conclusion – being anywhere near STW is not going to help with the therapy.

    2004 – Cotic Soul
    2006 – Giant SCR (aluminium)
    2007 – Giant SCR (carbon)
    2009 – Pianni track bike (s/h)

Of course, this thread is on the wrong forum altogether if you want to understand what a ‘normal’ number of bicycles to own is.

For most people the answer is ‘1’.

All this sounds very normal to me! 😉
I’m also looking for my next frame to have custom painted and to build into something!
All this bike/frame/building activity is good for the soul and besides, Tv’s rubbish!

right sorted the headset problem with the new “potential” frame so it looks like its gonna happen as long as they DO import that frame into the UK 😳
