Looking for a hart tail to use as a bike for racing. Should be light, and have short travel. I have a c. £1k burget, looking to buy new and looking to fellow STWers to help me choose. It's not going to be on C2W so can be something on sale. The choices so far are, but looking for more.

And swap the frame? Might not be the perfect fork, so you might have to swap that too.
My Cube Ltd Race served me very well in the Whinlatter Challenge a couple of weeks back (first proper race). The bike was easily better then my fitness levels to ride it any quicker!! 
It looks very pretty too!
The Edinburgh Bike co-op Triad hardtails look pretty good value, but perhaps not racey enough.

You had it right to begin with. Sometimes you're just right. Buy it, race it, love it.
Well went today and bought myself the boardman. Great bit of kit for the money. A few things I have changed (new saddle and put on some new tyres) and fixed the few mistakes in the build, but apart from that I love it. My first hart tail so will take a bit to get used to, but can't complain for £850 plus including £ 50 of accessories.
What with this "hart tail" thing ?

P.s Dont worry all reflectors have been removed, the speed kings have been replace with Spesh Captains and the saddle with a Spesh Alias

+1 for the Cube LTD Race. Short of spending £3.7k on a full-carbon, full-suss dominator 
it is a total XC weapon.
