Venturing into the 29er world and looking for a light, fast XC mud tyre.

Really like my Dirty Dans on my 26er but doesn’t look like Schwalbe make them in 29ers.

A light mud tyre – surely a waste of time. Mud tyres prime objective is to make going forwards possible, not be light surely?

Maxxis Beaver are light and grip well in mud

another beaver vote. Better than other mud tyres I’ve tried on stuff other than mud too.

The obvious options are Maxxis Beaver or Bontrager Mud X…

I agree with the others above: Beaver, on the basis that they work best between the mud and have a more supple casing.

Do they do a 29er Dirty Dan? They’re light mud tyres.

Another vote for the Maxxis Beaver here, used mud x’s thought they were lousy as they weren’t supple enough. The Maxxis has a proper light weight carcass that also had knobs to grip in the mud.

Maybe my definition of light needs to reviewed 😀

Those Beavers are around 500gms which is light enough. My 26 Dirty Dans are around that weight – sadly they don’t make them in 29.

Once tried Panaracer Trailrakers and was shocked at how heavy / draggy they were. Great while I was a beginner but really hard work on the climbs.
