Just had a great weekend on the Island. The routes from the Arran bike club were superb, the singletrack on the Black route is sublime, the steps by the waterfall are actually ridable…. Thanks to the Arran bike club for posting the info.

Food at Lamlash, Glen Isle pub is superb, local beer ace too, so all in all, we will be going back again. There is a bit of hike a bike up Goatfell that needs to be done.

One word of caution, the Aldersyde bunkhouse is a complete biohazard. We were thrown out after being asked to pay more than the internet advertised price (which we found out was two years old, we refused…). We also got our own linen off the line to put on the beds, it was really dirty all round. The final straw was to have taken clean bikes (one brand new), indoors. Considering the state of the place it brightened it all up!

Basically its run by a 78 yr old lady who is just overwhelmed and she cant cope anymore.. all the people we met trying to find other accommodation knew exactly what we meant….. so its understandable but there are better bothies!

We had a fab weekend and will be over again. 1.5 hrs from Edinburgh and £10 return on the fairy, its almost as easy to get to as Dalbeatie etc etc…

    Recommended.

Sounds good, had a walking holiday there years ago and loved the place. Definitely on my to-do list for biking.

Is Goat Fell rideable (downwards at least) then? I only vaguely remember walking it and think there was a bit of scrambling involved.
