It's probably because I am a mincer and dont like going 1000mph, but I feel much more at home with a bit of moistness in the ground.

Over these parts the trails have a stoney surface which when bone dry makes the stones slide all over the place when you ride over them giving you the feeling you are riding on ice. When there is a bit of moisture in the ground you can actually ride the corners faster as the stones don't move because they are stuck in the soft ground.

'tis true.
I deffo attack more in the wet and I could convince myself I am actually faster. Different style I suppose. Its easy for me to over-brake when there is loads of grip and end up going around corners in hexagon fashion rather than a smooth drift! -( also a perceived softer landing. )

Moist ground is nice, torrential rain and rivers of water we have locally isn't

A bit of a shower to dampen the dust would have been welcomed, seems to have been a bit torrential though.. (or perhaps once its all soaked in and run off it might be alright!)

that's summer done then,
and no i don't like moisture in the ground, trails are much nice when dry and with the amount of rain that has fallen as quickly as it has the ground will be baked with a layer of slim on top.

The main problem with fresh rain is all the roots and limestones, which go from grippy to nothing in seconds.

Just got back after a stolen 2.5 hours in Standish woods, Glos. (Bike on the car and play about session)
True to form I felt faster, my head was well up and I was more confident.
right at the start, the roots were a bit wet but they soon dried.
Even did a log drop-off that I havn't done for 6 months (don't get too excited - its not that big) Nothing to do with the surface that one, but confidence is catching

Due to the wet trails and a change to 'racier length' forks on the HT (nothing to do with my lack of skill
) I face planted for the first time in 10 years riding today - 2 bust lips / cracked helmet / grazed face. Please can the trails be dusty again!'

Nope, was hoping it'd stay dry for tomorrow so I could ride somewhere more fun, but I cba to drive ~100 miles to ride in mud

Nailing it down here at the moment so Cannock will be fun tomorrow for the many that will be there.
I think I'll be sticking to the road tomorrow till the trails look less like rivers.

It's not that nice in Portsmouth. Found I have a leak in y porch roof so will be fixing that in the morning if the rain holds off. Would have like a bit of damp on the trailsbut with this rain the chalk will be like grease... so will probably be on the road bike

Wide ride at woburn still just like a beach.......
The evaporation rate and drainage are much better when its hot and dry....

ahh I avoided Woburn today as I assumed it would all be their finest sloppy grinding paste. Will have to go down in the week!

Woburn was hot, damp, steamy and sticky today. WHich is nice if you're with a woman, not when you're riding a bike.
