its not so much the stand thats the problem.im pretty confident with that.its the actually frame clamp assembly that could be a bit tricky.any other tight fisters like me who could give ideas/tips...

Saw a guy recently had cut a tube at 45deg acrosse and slipped a bolt down the inside. When the bolt was done up the two pieces of bar slid across each other and clamped the inside of the seat tube. Sort of like an old headset idea.

I asked something similar and its similar to what sv is saying but just using a seatpost of the right diameter... only agro I can see is lifting the bike up and inserting it into the frame and then holding it while you do the clamp up..

Nope you’re not the only one
I needed one and had some suitable metal hanging around the garage so welded a few bits together
It's not got a clamp at all, but has got 2 parallel bits of metal clad in a bit of old roll matt so as to be frame friendly. I can either stick the bike on there so it's sitting on the cross bar in the groove or hang the bike on there on the front of the saddle when doing anything with the gears (cables routed under crossbar) always done the job for me.
Mind you I might have a new stand on my Christmas list

I've also built my own stand but it's the type where you have a sort of 'cup' affair that supports the frame under the BB shell and a bar that comes up from there at 45 deg' or so to support the down tube. I simply use a velcro strap around the downtube to hold the bike frame to the stand. I just tried to find a link to where I (cough) borrowed the idea from but don't seem to be able to find it at the mo', will post again if I find it. Can post a pic' up tonight if that would help you visualise what I'm on about.
