I need to convert a large Excel spreadsheet to a comma separated file to load into some other system.
The genius who supplied the file has basically colour coded cells to mean different things (as well as content inside the cell meaning other things!!!) and I need this information. Anyone know if you can grab the colour of a cell and use that information?
Either that or it's gonna be a long hard time recrafting the spreadsheet.
csv is a text file, if you need to capture the colours i would suggest looking at a macro to capture the cell settings and then adding this detail to a new cell.
When you export to a CSV all details will then be captured.
Just bear in mind you can save the resulting file as an excel .csv file but it's not a true .csv file. You may need to use file scripting macros to create a true .csv file.
+1 for grabbing the colours using a macro. It is doable but my guess is if you're having to ask it may be beyond you.
I know in modern versions of excel you can sort by colour but not sure if you can interogate it further.
