If that's what's happening you're going too fast. Your fault. Simple.
Maybe not quite that simple! There is a corner at the bottom of a long hill between me and the main road – roll around the corner too slow and the car will never get up the hill. On the other hand I got a little bit close to understeering into the snow bank this morning… tis a question of judging it just-so. What makes it extra akward is the unpredicability of thawing/re-freezing snow.
A lot of people don't drive with sufficient confidence, rather than with too much – they go so slow the car just wheelspins, they get stuck in the deep stuff and so on. You actually need a very similar mindset to mountain biking – ie. confident but controlled, committed but with concentration.
