skinny lady oop north – well manchester, so fairly oop north – 32:20 on my 29er. I can spin faster than Mr S, which is just as well cos he runs 32:18 on his 29er, but this means a leveller playing field than ususal, but I still can't beat him…damn it!

    barred from the SQT's then!

SSSHHH!! Don't tell them! I need to gear it down to be honest, it's hard work getting up to speed sometimes and I'm not convinced it provides me any real advantage against the properly quick lads.

more akin to a road bike i always think

hmm. dunno how that works. the roadies usually stay seated.
i find if i don't ride our local BFO steep hill regularly ( once a week ) i go off the boil and it becomes even more purgatory than it is normally.

my first ride on my (newley singlespeeded bike) last night

32:16 – rode the set 2 rise course (for those that know it). Was fine, went quicker uphill (either that or walk)

    good fun

That seems a bit low for Kielder Samuri, unless you're on a 29er? I ran 32:17 on a 26er last year and could have done with more speed on the flats and downs, rather than easier pedaling on the climbs, I think. I'll be running 32:18 on the TD-1 if I get to borrow it again.
