   The ones I use all the time are more system things than apps themselves, to get the best out of the handset, so:

   2g/3G switch shortcut (select between WDMCA, GPRS and WDMCA/GPRS so that you can keep a stable connection in variable signal areas)
   RVolume - volume profile controls
   ToddlerLock - keeps Stoners Jr quiet in the pub
   RAC Traffic
   Tricorder - Signal analysis
   Wifi Analyser - Wifi analysis

   I did use gmail unread counter widget, but it stopped working then went pay only so no longer using.

   TaskManager - task killer

   Best games
   Tesseract Gin Rummy
   Backgammon
   Yahtzee clone

   By far my favourite game is trial x, a trials riding game.
   Try the free demo, but it is worth paying the few £ for the full game is its miles better

    Oruxmaps - seems to do masses of stuff but all I really want it to do is track my route - which it does very well indeed. It's got built-in integration with MapMyTracks so works perfectly as it syncs right after saving (or automagically if I tick the right box).

    Usual stuff -

    GMail
    BBC News
    BBC Iplayer
    YouTube
    TweetDeck
    Backup Master - seems to backup everything but minor issue with text messages restoring to the wrong contact name but as it's only jokes I've no issues with that.
    BT FON - if you are a Bt customer with broadband through them, you can get free wifi connection using the app - you connect to any available BT wifi next to you and login with your details...

    Evernote synching notes between lots of devices
    Sky+
    TuneIn Radio tons of streaming radio stations
    Timeriffic setting schedules for switching things on and off like alerts for text messages when you are asleep etc
