I’ve snapped both mine and never had surgery, only physio and rehab – one was sking and the other when a car hit me on the road bike.

Was off cylcling on both for a couple of weeks, then doing a range of physio exercises and riding – I remember plenty of stretching, icing and big gear riding (for strength). Had no ongoing issues, and been back to Doc for a checkup etc – he seemed pretty confident that no ongoing surgery required.

Did it prior to starting to MTB but was unable to run for near enough 6 months and I did a shed load of post op physio/rehab programme.

Had mine reconstructed about six years ago, I was supposed to stay off “proper riding for 9 months. I was allowed do fitness/leisure cycling after 3 months, ended up risking proper riding though. Was fine but would have been big time in the shite if I had crashed on it that early though. Early proper riding I reckon put full recovery back by another 3-4 months.

Do what your physio says! Work hard and it’ll all be fine. I say that but my knee has just started clicking and got some pain at the front. Had my ACL done 7 years ago though so I doubt it’s that (hope).

    Hello.
I’ve had my right anterior cruciate ligament replaced after too many years of it giving way and leaving me on the floor.
    My recovery was as follows.
Two whole weeks on my back. – no weight on leg at all.
Just did very basic but swearing painful stretches with laccy band.
    Week 3 I started physio proper-I did a lot of physio – a good 10 months
Week 6 I spun my bike around a cricket pitch –
physio said ok – but don’t fall off!
    Week 12 I did a slow tour of Skiddaw . 😀

Obviously everyone’s different but don’t try to push it too hard.
It hurts like buggery when you do.
Do you know if they are taking the donor ligament from your hamstring?
If so, this is the most painfull part of it IMO.

All in all I’m “happy” I had mine done – took 18 months for it to be 95% better – I still feel the screws in damp cold .

    Best of luck.

My patella autograft was complicated by significant muscle wastage from being put in a splint for 4 weeks by some muppet of a french doc. But I was back skiing 11 months after the op

    Do what your physio says!

This, they’re the only one who will see you regularly enough to make the call. Put the effort in, work at getting the mobility back first, and take it steady when u do get back on.
