i think it looks like his ankle has given way before the tackle

That was my thought on MOTD – seemed his ankle gave way as shawcross was just about to hit him. Tried not to watch too closely tho!

Not a bad tackle, very clumsy and VERY unfortunate. Poor lad.

i agree, a 50/50 tackle which any player would of went for. No studs showing, foot on the ground. Unfortunately he was milliseconds late and caught his ankle. Player was obviously distraught over a perfectly good tackle. Now if it was a high studs showing tackle then maybe the stoke player could get some abuse but it wasn't

Agree what most others have said, clumsy tackle and nothing else, just really, really unlucky

Oh well, he can use some of his footballers inflated salary to get it fixed by a specialist

    perfectly good tackle.

I don't believe that shawcross tried to hurt ramsay, but it was a long way from a perfectly good tackle. the point of contact was on ramsay's shin, nowhere near the ball. That is not a good tackle. i have no axe to grind with anyone involved, and don't support arsenal.

hope ramsay has a swift recovery

Ramsey's a 19 year old kid, that break could end his footballing career.

You're obviously blinded by ££££ and envy rather than capable of showing any sort of compassion.

I didn't say for one minute I don't feel sorry for the guy, wouldn't wish that on anyone – I merely stated he can more than afford the top specialists in the country to see him right – footballers are way overpaid, youcant deny that. Good luck for a speedy recovery random feetball player.

That wasn't a good tackle, but it wasn't a malicious tackle either.

And I say that as an Arsenal fan too.

I don't think the ref was even going to book Shawcross, he was very close and saw it as a 50/50 tackle. It was the severity of the outcome that made him red card Shawcross-who is not a dirty player. Sad for Ramsey.

Poor kid (not financially)As a Welsh Gooner I just hope he makes a full recovery, it's been obvious to see he's got the potential to be one of the very best in the game, it would be sad if he never realized that potential because of some bloody clogger, not a malicious but definitely a very bad tackle.

Shawcross seemed to be really suprised when the ref showed him the red card, like I said it was not a malicious deliberate bad tackle, just a poorly timed late tackle. I felt sorry for Shawcross, he was obviously very upset by what happened. I just hope that Ramsey makes a full recovery and is back playing next season, it would be very sad to see such a young mans career ruined.

I was at the game in the Seddon stand right next to what had happended and it was hard 50/50 ball, both players were 110% committed. There is no way Shawcross would have done that with intent, his studs were not showing, it wasn't 2 footed, just a couple of milliseconds late.

My concern was the fact that no Arsenal players went to Ramsey, it was Glen Whelan from Stoke who was on the floor helping whilst Campbell and Fabregas were arguing with the ref trying to get a red card.

I wish the lad a full and speedy recovery – he's got time on his side and from the looks of it its his lower leg away from the ankle and knee so this will also minimise complications.

Well thats my say from a Stoke fan – I'm sure people will agree/disagree and everyone is entitled to their opinions I guess thats what make football great !

lucky Ramsey's welsh otherwise it'd've ended his world cup dream….

seriously tho – reminded me of David Busst the way the players reacted, pretty sure he'll return to the game the medical technology having advanced so much, however the question is will he ever be the same player?

I don't think Eduardo is as good since his return.

I was in the Seddon too, and to be honest watching Campbell and Cesc while only whelan did his best to keep Ramsey still said it all. It was a 50-50 ball, no malice or intent and very unfortunate for the kid. The result didnt matter after that incident

Shame really think wenger went over the top with his comments ,also the same the idiot pulis ….The only thing that matters is the kid is ok!!!!

I dont think it was a bad tackle i thought as said here beofre he was on his way over!!!

    Good luck

it was a 50-50 challenge that had a horrendous outcome, no way did Shawcross try to do him, simply a clumsy tackle. It showed it clearly on MOTD where you say Shawcross kick him with the top of his foot, not the studs, also well done Whelan for being the only one to come to the poor boys aid!

Horrendous for the fella though as he is a topper of a player 😐

I watched the match and it was a commited tackle by both players who give their all for the game. Shawcross isn't a dirty player and you could tell by his reaction when he was leaving the field how distraught he was – he is a young lad and it will hit him hard. As for Aaron I wish him all the best and hope he fully recovers as he didn't deserve that to happen – but these things do happen and it's because thank god they are that rare, they get lots of publicity – most of it bad but it's not the first and it won't be the last either.
As for the players reactions it was incredible that a Stoke player was the only one who went to Aaron whereas the Arsenal players just wanted get at the ref – poor show Wengers boys I'm afraid.

Wenger's inability to see anything other than what he chooses is getting increasingly ludicrous. The next reporter to interview him should say one thing, "Arsene, you complain about opposing sides being too physical when playing against you, yet your side have the word disciplinay record, e.g. highest number of red cards, in recent years. How do you explain that?"

EDIT: something like 73 reds between 1996 and 2008!

but these things do happen and it's because thank god they are that rare

Diaby, Eduardo and now Ramsey in the last four years, not so rare if you're an Arsenal player….

I don't think Shawcross meant to break Ramsey's leg, but if you can't go in for a tackle without the risk of breaking someone's leg then you shouldn't be tackling. It was a late challenge and Shawcross had no chance of winning the ball, he did have the opportunity to smash an opponents leg though.
You can say it was a 50/50 challenge, it wasn't it a desperate lunge by oafish average player who has no place being anywhere near a premier league game other than in the stands.
Shawcross selected for England; Fabio must be wanting someone to sweep the dressing rooms after the game..

A really nasty injury, but there was no intent. Shawcross is a top quality defender and deserves his England call up.
Wenger and his players let themselves down once again.
I hope that Ramsey makes a full recovery. He is a fine player.

Perfectly acceptable tackle. Just bad luck. What was really unforgiveable was the reaction of the Arsenal staff which influenced the ref to give the red and as a result lay the blame with Shawcross whose carrer will also now be negatively affected.

Arsenal need to get their own ludicrous house in order before they comment on anyone elses.

Also not so rare if your name is Shawcross, as he broke Francis Jeffers ankle (not when he was at Arsenal), and put Adebayor out for a month in the same fixture last year! But no you're all right – he didn't mean it and he's not that kind of player … clearly!

only read a few of the above, the worst tackle EVER was when roy (pikey scum bag) keane took a guy out years ago.

im not a massive footie fan but i'll never forget seeing it, the tackle was that severe it ended the guys career.

the pikey bastard should have been banned for life.

cant remember the players name but he was british, think it was early 90's may have been Leeds?

How can anyone say that Shawcross was to blame for this broken leg and that it was a bad challenge. Ramsey threw himself in to the challenge and sadly for him suffered the consequences of going full tilt against a centreback who is 6 ft 5 and build like the proverbial brick outhouse. Just look how he went in to the challenge.

Arn't we all missing the rather obvious point that in the photo above his leg is proper **** and that is before Shawcross has made any contact

they earn the 200k a week?

Do you think that Ramsey earns anything like that? Only a tiny majority of the very top players earn that sort of money. And even if he was one of the very top players, would he deserve that just because he could afford to put it right? (Although of course the player won't be paying for it anyway – it will be covered by the club's medical cover).

That is a challeneg that has been made 100's of times over the years without incident. Usually both players get up, say well done and run off. Shawcross had 1 thing in mind and that was the ball. Bad luck to Ramsey and feel for the guy.

Now to cover Wingers points on Arsenal being a target. Forgetting the selective vision that is legendary in the Emirates. We could just pass this off by saying we didnt see it, Whinger wouldnt have a leg to stand on. Forgetting the disciplinary record that Arsenal have over the last 10yrs compared with others. Forgetting Cesc's tackle later in the game which had 10x the malicous intent as this tackle and then he made gestures to the Stoke bench. Forgaetting all manner of things, lets actually take Whingers comments on board and accept that Arsenal are targetted.

Well they are targetted because they play a more passing game than others. What Whinger is asking for is that their players are given extra protection from the 'bullys'. So what happens when Arsenal come up against Barcelona? Do they have a ranking system whereby the refs arent allowed to let opposition tackles pass from the lesser ranked teams? Do we have players having a no go zone around them?

This is a basic situation that Whinger needs to deal with. His team passes the ball more than others. Thats means they are tackled more than others. They also move the ball around quicker than others which means they are talking milliseconds making big differences. Is it coincidence that this has happened 3 times to Arsenal players. I dont think so. But it is as much down to Arsenal as it is down to others. I have seen much worse tackles in matches abroad. Has no one from the Spanish or Italian leagues had similar injuries?

As always, Whinger battons down the hatches and blames English football that has rewarded him so well. Pullis had the right response when he said he wouldnt give 2pence for Whinger comments about Shawcross. The lad was distraught and was probably scared to open the papers this morning.

All in all, i hope Ramsey comes back 100% and i hope Whinger issues an apology for his comments.
