I have an old Sunn BMIX which is ace but the 110 spaced rear end, sloping track ends and the minimal tyre clearance is making my life a misery.

What other frame options do I have?

    Looking for:
    26″ 135 wheels
    non suspension correct front end
    Disk or V mounts
    Small, tough chuckable frame

    Thanks

Most Dirt jump/street bikes? DMR springs to mind but everyone makes one, have a read of Dirt, its full of appropriate ads.

keep the Sunn – Loved mine.

Shimano DX cassette BMX hubs with chain tugs.

There’s an SE 26″ PK Ripper thingy,
Cove Sanchez – I have one, geometery for 100mm forks, disc, removable V’s, small&chuckable.

I think subrosa do a 26” version of one of their models ..But that might be a fixie.

24” is more common I’m afraid

I love the BMIX but I just cant crank the rear hub bolts tight enough and the tyres either rub on the frame or rub on the brakes. With the dropouts being angled at the back and now a bit rounded i cant get chain tugs to work without slipping.

I was considering a 24″ cruiser but could just pull everything off the BMIX and stick it on a 26″ frame.

Oh and where did you get your wheels from for the BMIX?

I cant find any off the shelf and dont fancy building from scratch

GT are doing a couple for 2012 I think, not sure whether they’re a bit more form than function though?

rnp, looks like I’ll have to learn wheel building then.

yunki, most seem to be full builds not frames or stupidly expensive

    jedi, already have a 20″ s&m Bennett

podge, i think i filed BMIX my dropouts level and used chaintugs. took a bit of browsing to find the right ones though.

i saw a 26″ bmx on here a while back that looked ace, cant for the life of me remember the site though!

    cheers Tom,

I’ve got a guy at work who says he’ll weld a bit of plate to the dropouts to get them square so that should solve one problem.

now I just need to find a hub and learn wheel building.

those big bmx don’t look too bad for frame & forks but they have stupid u brakes. worst brake design ever

Pretty sure you can get chain tensioners that sit in the inside of the dropout and push the axle out rather than pull it out. Not sure where mind sorry..

No Tom, my friendly welder cannot spread the rear end being that he is a welder not a spreader, plus you must remember how solid those rear ends are, I think itd be more likely to crack around the BB area or something.

5lab, That 29er BMX looks interesting for something like bike polo though the HA is maybe a bit steep, as for a standard BMX, it seems a bit silly.

Kayak23, I also think I’ve seen them but have no idea where, plus the dropout is rounded so there isnt a lot of space to fit anything.
