Hi all can someone help me with the cable routing on a 2010-2012 stumpy fsr please!!

A picture showing where the cables run on the down tube would be great!!

    Cheers.

There are some clips that bolt in and keep all the cables neat and tidy. Just follow those. Do you not have those?

Don’t forget to leave a nice loop of rear mech cable and rear brake hose under the BB otherwise it will pull too tight at full suspension compression.

About the best shot I have…

Yep I’ve got the bike infront of me but for some reason all the cables look wrong. The brake hose and front mechcable cross over for some reason?

I have a feeling the clips are on the wrong way round and need spinning 180 degrees

Can you have a quick look fir me and tell me in you frame which side has two cables running down the down tube, drive side or other side. Could you also explain to me which cabke goes where!!

Bike is second hand and I have just put some brakes on it.

I run 10 speed and put both rear mech and brake hose down the 2 clip side. They then cross over under the BB where I just hold them together with a zip tie.

EDIT – one of the slots in the clips is fatter for the brake hose, so as long as hose is in that one I don’t suppose it matters for the other two as long as it works nicely at the headtube end and the BB end.

to answer your question above, if you’re looking at the bike head on then the left hand side of the down tube has one cable with the two other cables together over to the right hand side of the down tube.

so that’ll be Drive side one cable, non drive two.

Nice 2012 to Rickos by the way 🙂

Aye, and what jimtorch says – double clip on the non-drive side.

    And mine’s a 2011 Evo…sorry to disappoint jimtorch.

    ONLY a 2011?? Pphhttt!

Ah, i was wondering if it was an EVO, i thought it looked differnt to mine but an EVO explains the differences. So tell me, am i missing 10mm extra fun??

Mines got the 2x 10 set up and I’ve fitted a dropper post too now so apart from the 10mm travel there can’t be a lot of difference between them can there? Did you ride both the standard and the EVO before you bought?

    What’s yours then Renton?

    In its latest form.

(sorry for thread-jacking by the way Renton)

jimtorch – Mine has 145mm travel – they upped it to 150 for this year, but it’s more about the angles. It’s about 1.5 degrees slacker than the normal Stumpy and with a slightly lower BB. Invincible going down.

I’d never ridden a Stumpy of any sort before this one. It’s a keeper for sure.

    Cheers all.

Ive got a 2011 stumpy fsr with a bit of a twist.

The lad I bought it off originally had a 2010 stumpy elite in silver but he had issues with paint flaking off so it was replaced with a 2011 stumpy imported from america. I believe it is one of 3 in the uk ..

here it is part way through building up ….

Its a 140mm model running 150mm forks and full xt with hope tech m4 brakes and a dropper post.

    Its my 3rd stumpy …..

    1st one,

    2nd one

oh and just checked and my clips are on the wrong way round !!!

    cheers

Stumpy elite. I love it so much I’ve got a long list of upgrades for it. Still deciding if I should upgrade to 150 or 160mm forks.

That’s a very nice bike mate.

I’ve found they run very well fitted with 150mm forks!!

Yeah I think some Fox 34’s in 150 are in order here but I need some wider bars and a reverb first.

Mind and check you have sufficient heli tape or neoprene cover on the non drive side chainstay as that is a very bad place for cable/hose rub on those frames.

Yep that’s a very good tip mark!!!

Oooya! That’s a nice looking stealthy grey and black number from the states you’re building up there Steve, i like that a lot, i’d have gone the stealth route myself but this white and black one came up at a bargain price so couldn’t refuse, how come you’re on your 3rd Stumpy though when they all look like a similar age/spec?
Are you building them up and selling them straight on?

    jimtorch

Rosss, SNAP! Mine looks like that on a good day or at least a dry day…….does anyone remember those? Dry days…?

Peak District trip this weekend, that’ll be another dry one then.. 😐

    Cheers Jimtorch!!

Nah not buying them to sell on I got offered good money for the last two thats all.

This one is deffo a keeper

Just waiting for the wheels to turn up then I can get out on it !!

renton, your latest one looks like the standard 2010 Expert frame – black with gloss black decals & details.

I had the same flaky paint issue with my 2010 silver Elite & they’d run out of alloy frames. They offered me a wait for a 2011 frame or £50 to upgrade to the carbon one. Guess what I went for?! Ended up with a carbon version. Not seen another one on the trails yet…

Would be interested to see how much different the Evo feels.

stumpy01 mine isnt the 2010 expert frame mate !! definitely a US import.

    see here…

    here is the 2010 expert.

I know they look similar but mine is anodized grey exactly the same as the one in my top link.

HOLY CRAP! That is pure filth! 😯 Bike porn at its best!

I was going to say to Steve that if your black is a large and you ever fancied a frame swap to a White and Black Elite one then just let me know.

If now been rocked by that carbon mutha, it looks awesome and nope, never seen another one on the trail either.

How does the whole frame warranty thing work anyway, do you have to show them some sort of receipt or something and they come bearing gifts of spangly new frames? Just how bad was the paint flaking issue and where abouts on the frame was it happening?

I can’t get over that Carbon number mate, its made my bike look rubbish! 🙁

    renton

Jim, I believe the flaking paint issue was only affecting the 2010 elite model which was silver.

Mine was flaking off on the down tube and also on the seat stays but as I got it cheap secondhand I wasnt bothered!!

yours is a nice bike mate and will look better than a carbon one in a few years time, plus if it did get bad then you always have the option of powdercoating whereas carbon owners done……

Don’t say that Renton my 2013 Carbon Evo arrived yesterday and I’m still in a daze of carbon loveliness.

Just need to actually get out and ride it now.

Yeah fair point, when did you get the silver stumpy with the flaky paint? Did you get it from ebay because I think i might have been bidding on that frame in the summer before i got my new one! i lost out by a few quid probably to you!
I got my Elite for £1600 and the guy had hardly ridden it so i’m pretty happy although i’m a marketing mans wet dream and keep thinking an EVO or a 29er would be even more fun!?

Someone tell me to stay put and my standard Stumpy is awesome enough as it is, please stop me spending money! its becoming an addiction!

Easton Haven bars went on, Easton Haven stem went on then immediately came off (for sale if anyone is interested?) On One stem then went on, KS dropper post went on, Bionicon c-guide went on, Carbon Fibre rock guard just gone on! HELP ME!!

Oh yeah…! The pics viewed on my phone look black. Looks very stealthy. The 2010 demo bike I rode was an expert with a really nice red paint job, like the glitter silver & not pillar box red. Hard to explain, but it looked great. Shame it wasn’t an available colour.

Looking through the archive site….it would appear that mine is the US 2010 carbon pro. Probably why I haven’t seen anyone else about on one…
Although sat outside the cafe at Thetford, we overheard a bloke ask his mate if ‘that bike over there is actually carbon fibre’ to which his mate replied that it wasn’t, just a carbon effect sticker job! Eek. My mate who was with me at the time still takes the mick out of my alloy frame with Halfords carbon stickers…

Jimtorch, yeah I think I struck lucky with that frame. I have heard the odd snide comment about it, along the lines of ‘all the gear, no idea’ but hey ho. I got a good deal on the original bike as the dealer knocked vat off it for me, so it was well under £2k.
The paint flaking started very slight – dots here & there but then spread to the whole bike, really. I wouldn’t have taken it back, apart from the fact that lots of it was in areas where you wouldn’t expect chips from rocks etc. and it clearly wasn’t impact damage.
Took it into the shop & they were sceptical, but raised it with Specialized who sorted it out no questions asked.

To be honest, I reckon that white/black version is one of the best looking paint jobs they’ve done in a while.

My frame still looks like new when it gets a clean, tinman66 so don’t worry about it. In fact, the only area showing it’s age is the alloy rear end where I had a chainsuck problem at a very muddy D2D that took some paint off.

Going back to Renton’s original query for a sec, I had exactly the same problem when I took my new Evo out the box, tried to attach the bars and all the cables / hoses were all over the place, couldn’t get it them to sit right.

Ended up taking the right hand brake and shifter off, untangling it all and refitting. Seems to sit right now although need to get the clear coat protectors on my frame to stop cable rub.

No idea how the shop would have fitted the bars as they were.

Thanks Jimtorch – I have a very nice PPI claim to thank for the new toy, I’ll be honest can’t see xmas day living up to yesterday’s pressie.

And yes I will be the one riding round the Sheffield / Peak area with all the gear and no idea 😀

tinman66, that’s how i live my life and it’s also going to be on my gravestone

    “all the gear, no idea”

Saying that, i’d better get my act together, i’ve just booked a trip to Glentress next May! AAWOOGA!

tinman66, you need to stick a photo up on here otherwise it doesn’t exist.

Where in the Peaks are you riding? We were going to head up to Hope the other day but ended up staying lower down and doing a route round Curbar and Calver edge area. Wet and muddy but a good natural ride, it was nice to mix it up from the usual Cannock and Llandegla trips and do some wilderness riding but at the end of it i immediately wanted to go to Cannock?! Bang for your buck i suppose.

Jim I had that elite frame quite early this year the lad I got it off had sold quite a few of them.

I sold the black one in august but kind of regretted it so got offered this on with full xt drive train.

jimtorch – I’ll get some decent pics of it tonight and put them up.

Mostly round the Hope Valley / Stanage / Ladybower areas although going to give the new Parkwood Springs trail a quick spin at the weekend.

I love going out in the Peak but there’s definitely something to be said for centres like Cannock. Went up to Whinlatter last weekend and had an awesome time, just wish I’d had the new stumpy then.
