…that when I noted down the ERD of my new rim, I transposed 2 of the numbers. Guess that’s why the spokes don’t fit eh. No of course they don’t fit for 2-cross either, that’d be crazy.

Stealth ad: For sale, 32 259mm Sapim Lasers. Highly collectable; previously owned by the famous Northwind, wheel div.

What rim ERD would those work with?

Nearly as bad as forgetting that the hub you are rebuilding on was 36h not 32… oh how I laughed

(edit should really report the not so stealth ad in the main forum 😉 )

D’oh! Being utterly confused with the black art of wheel building I’m relatively smug in the knowledge that I’m never likely to do this! 😀

Not a totally oddball size, coild fit somebodies 26″ wheel build.

    Pffft

31 spoked wheel with inaccessible valve anyone?

What rim ERD would those work with?

Depends on what hubs you’re using 😉

I *believe* they’d be 1mm too long for Hope Pro2s on Stans Arch or Crest 26er. But I could be wrong. I remember being able to use 258s for them all round.

Someone will need to do the math on Spoke Calc.

Pretty close to my last 26″ wheel build which was 260 spokes. A Hope Pro 2 on a 534 ERD rim, 32 3x would be around 259m

Yeah, 26er Hopes on E13 or Stan’s are there or thereabouts.

Hub with the world’s largest flange? That’s 30ish mm too short for a wagon wheel… this your first home build NW?

My front wheel is 258mm, I’d have had a few of those off you but I just bought some spares. And that’s a snowflake pattern.

    What length do you need?

Let’s be honest, this isn’t the most crazy thing you could have done, is it?

this your first home build NW?

Nah, but the first that isn’t a 26er so the sizes just felt kind of sensible. What’s really annoying is I measured the ERDs, ran it in multiple calculators, all that good stuff- I just can’t write 😆

The other one should still have some in it.

oik1: it’s not a black art, it’s very a straightforward set of steps. If you read a good guide and follow the steps, you’ll be successful.

Trouble is, we’re all pretty good/bad at “getting the gist” from a quick skim and wading in. That approach doesn’t really work with wheelbuilding, and there are probably a good 50-odd ways to get it wrong if you’re not concentrating.

I got a lot less posty on STW when I realised that fold do remember everything – some fully, some not-so-funny, and some downright stalkerish*

    Take 2 went swimmingly btw.

If this is the only time you’ve failed to measure twice, cut once then it’s been cheap lesson. Mine involved a steerer tube.
