Is this advanced or parr de course behaviour?
Our lad uses a small plastic footstool- carries it around with him and so far has nicked food off the kitchen tops using it to stand on, open the fridge and get better access onto the highish sofa.
Is this normal or is he showing good thinking ahead traits??

Normal I'd say. Clever buggers those little 'uns. Oh, and despite not being able to talk yet, he'll understand a whole lot of your conversations by now.

I hate to disappoint you but at 18 months, ours had the foresight to phone ahead months in advance when booking reservations at his favourite michelin starred restaurant..
Don't worry - we've thought ours was brighter than us since about that age too. Ms TT was building ramps of cuddly toys in the corner of her cot by 16 months to make good her escape. We stripped her cell of all bar one teddy - that taught her

Clever fella, nowing how to get the food and what tools to use. our boys just turned one an he pushes his toys to the sofa to stand on an climb up. If only he made the same effort to walk.

Our two year old knows how to work both my iPhone and iPad in order to access the 'Fireman Sam' videos (iPhone stored media) and 'Mike the Knight' on the iPad via BBC iPlayer!
WOW thats good. Mine just goes and gets the remote and hands it to you if your not on Cbeebies. He also tries to get his In the Night Garden boxset discs into the DVD player.
A friend's daughter uses the drawers in the kitchen unit (opening them up by varying amounts) to make steps so she can get onto the work surfaces - she has been doing that since she was about 14 months :-O

sounds just like my lad. knows where everything is and numerous ingenious ways of getting to them. such as moving chairs into the kitchen to climb onto worktop to get into the cupboard to see what he can get out. knows how to turn on telly, switch it to dvd player input so the dvd turns on, open cupboard, get postman pat disc into machine. not quite got the hang of which button to press to start it playing yet but give it a few days.
14 month boy here. We've always said he's a bit like the Raptors in Jurasic Park, both in terms of speed of learning but also the noise and appetite...
Ooh my son's 18 months now. He's not so bright though, bumps his head a lot. Although he understands more of his mother's language than I do - he knows where his nose is when asked in Chinese....
Mine knows where his nose is when there's a booger up there...

our little girl does it, carries it around props herself by the sink when i clean my teeth and does hers, also has one down her grandmothers and helps her wash up!
yunki Jr (2 and a bit) has got the hang of opening the babygate.. amazing seeing as we can watch Aunties, Uncles, Grandparents, healthcare professionals etc struggle with it indefinitely..

mmm he needs to be more cunning. My boy was scaling things, getting on to windowsills etc around 14 months.
Carrying a stool around is just to much of a giveaway. Next he'll be wearing a blindfold and carrying a swag bag for all his new found toys.
Teach him to be a bit more sly.

His mum says everything in English then Chinese so it's a bit of an effort but now is the easiest time to learn I suppose. I can't imagine he'll get into the writing though.

Well he's a bit on the rough side so I'm more concerned about him becoming a thug than a...whatever Gok is.
Ours is rough. They call him 'boisterous' at Nursery. Don't you just love it when they try to fit as much food in their mouth as humanly possible?

The pink one (now 20months) has been getting her own cutlery for some time now. If she likes what you're eating then you've got the time it takes for her to run to the kitchen and back to scoff as much as possible.
