GoPro Hero 9 to launch 16th September

by Andi 1

The GoPro Hero 9 action camera launch could be sooner than you might expect as the tech brand hints at an event on the 16th September.

GoPro hasn’t been able to keep a lid on the new GoPro Hero 9 we’ve seen it in videos uploaded by Brendan Fairclough (it’s still visible even in his edited version), and tech websites have already published detailed specifications of the camera, plus images of the new retail packaging.

Through-out all of these leaks, GoPro has remained quiet about the new camera, that is until yesterday when they finally hinted at a launch event. GoPro’s social media was updated with a short teaser video letting us know that something is coming on the 16th of September. The video mentions “more resolution” and “more everything” check it out below.

Those little tidbits of information confirm a few of the details that we had already seen leaked. More Resolution seems to be true as the Hero 9 is expected to offer 5K video @ 30FPS and the sensor is also believed to be a larger 20-megapixel model. More Everything? Well, this is probably a hint at the front-facing colour display on the GoPro Hero 9.

It has been posted elsewhere, that the GoPro Hero 9 is to launch with a larger 1720mAh battery, almost 40% larger than the Hero 8. Other new features include an update to stabilisation in the form of HyperSmooth 3.0, and a new Time Warp 3.0 features too.

We’ll find out in a few days time if these leaks are accurate or not.

What I really want them to do is something that records for 7 or 8 hrs in lower quality, so I can capture all the d1cks trying to kill me on the road. Not arsed about 5k.
The only other option is the Cyclic but all reports on that are (a) shiite battery and (b) unreliable.
If I could get GoPro waterproofing and reliability with a decent battery life for long road rides I’d be in.
