Cotic Tonic – A Limited Edition Titanium Gravel Bike

by 11

If you like the Cotic Escapade but are put off by the weight of steel, there’s now a solution for you: the Cotic Tonic – based on the Escapade’s geometry, but made of titanium.

Cotic Tonic

The Tonic is based on our Escapade, which has been a gravel bike since before there were gravel bikes. Our drop bar bikes have always had big clearances and discs, but we think that works just as well on road as off it. Sure you can speed it up on something like a 700x28c, but we supply the bikes with big volume 37c slicks. They roll really fast, but float over the potholes in the road and bumps in the trail. With the improved clearance provided by the latest Wide Chainline gravel cranks, you can run up to 700×44 or 650×50 Road Plus.

The Tonic uses butted 3Al/2.5V seamless titanium tubing. It features the Cotic Ovalform top tube for optimised ride and handling, and a smooth integral headset tapered head tube. Custom shaped rear end with great clearance completes the picture for the lightest, toughest, most beautiful riding frame. Durable, clean, graceful.

Inside Out cable management gives the owner multiple options for running clean routing whatever drivetrain configuration they choose to run. There’s dropper post routing and full Di2 internal routing capability too.The geometry is carried over unchanged from the Escapade. If it ain’t broke etc….

The big difference is the weight, as the Tonic frame is just 1647 grams, which saves over 600 grams compared to the Escapade. Then there’s the finish. Well, just look at it!!!.

Yes, let’s take a moment to look at the Cotic Tonic. Look with your eyes, not with your tongues, especially on a shared or public computer.

The fork is their new full carbon RB5 – introduced and updated since we last tested an Escapade, and now include “Anything Cage” style bosses on each leg. The frame has rear rack and full mudguard mounts, and you can get UK made custom fit frame bags – everything you need for your next big adventure? Or just a trip to the shops, taken the long way round, of course.

Want one? Wipe the dribble off your chin and prepare to act quickly and decisively – there are only 32 of these for 2021, and these are your options:

Cotic Tonic Pricing

  • The frame and fork set including Hope seat clamp and UK delivery is £2,199
  • The bike builds start at £3,449 for the Gold Apex1 build, and there’s a Road Plus option on this for £3,649.
  • The full house, top spec Platinum build is a SRAM Force22 etap AXS wireless with Hope wheels at £5,099.

All bikes come with a Hope headset and carbon seatpost. And yes you might spot some Shimano GRX in some of the pics, but nope, you can’t have that because it’s even rarer than these frames, but the SRAM Force that you can have was still on a boat somewhere when the frame was posing for the photos.
