While we were preparing for, and driving to, the Eurobike trade show in Germany last week, the UCI announced that it has created a U23 women’s category for the Cyclocross World Chamipionships.
The UCI will determine at a future date if this new category will trickle down to the UCI World Cup series, but for now it is only for the nation and world championships. The latter of which will be held Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
With this move, women cyclocross racers move one step closer to parity with men in the sport. Points and national and world team spots will be equal to those the men’s category. Additionally, prize money for U23 women will be the same as men’s side for the first three spots.
More information on the new U23 Women’s category can be found UCI U23 Women Cyclocross.
