Weighed my BFe frame (17.5 inch) after getting it powder coated and it was 5 1/2 lbs. They cocked up and ended up with 2 layers of powder coat on it

Powder coating my large soul frame added 38 grams, so I wouldn’t loose any sleep over an extra coat.

I’d struggle imagine anyone going for anything other than a camping pod or plain old camping at Glentress.

Oh, and a +1 for vesuvio’s. I had a great pastrami sandwich there. Everywhere in SF you’re likely to find is “a bit touristy” anyway.

I asked similar questions when I was going around easter time. See the thread here.

Yosemite is great. Muir woods is also close to SF if you want to see some giant Redwoods.

For getting about I’d use the BART, their underground. Cheap and quick.

Do not miss the mission district in San Fransisco. If you are looking for somewhere for an amazing lunch in the mission, I can’t recommend boogaloo’s enough. Very reasonably priced too.

I loved my all day ride over the bridge and marin headlands. Think more flowing fast dusty trail than full on single track though. Awesome to ride all the trail named after Marin’s various bikes.

Here’s a little pic to wet your appetite…

Wouldn’t bother with the curry house in Peebles. Not bad quality but expensive for what it is, good deal if you get take away mind.

I have them up for the pair £34 posted, they are gold, 180 and 160 in size.

Someone has promised me the money for them tomorrow along with a couple of other bits. I could let you know if they pull out though.

Mine were great but I would say that I have some for sale!

Ran mine with Elixir’s. They will definitely be fine.

Dead easy. Like you said, just replace rotor and adaptor.

Superstars site has the adaptors and it’s easy to work out what you need.

    Plus they’re cheap.

Nice Bike whereisthurso. Love the green/brown combo. It was your buid thread on here that help inspire me to get on and build my bike. Absolutely love it now so thanks for that!

These brakes are renowned for this problem, air getting past the lever seal. My solution was to de-gas as thoroughly as possible beforehand, bleed plenty of fluid through from the calliper, bleed the calliper as per instructions then omit bleeding the lever all together. Worked for me, might work for you.

Really appreciate all this advice, thanks people.

Looks like Kirroughtree and Drumlanrig are on the list too now. There really is too much to fit in. Would love to do Ben Lomond but think we’re going to stick to the south for this trip.

    rudedog – Member
You could do a variation of the Southern Upland Way (coast to coast) taking in any of Kirroughtree, Drumlanrigg, Ae, Glentress and Innerleithen along the way.

Sounds like a great idea, but this is our first trip like this so we’re going with driving between rides this time around. I’d love to get kitted out with some bike packing kit but having just finished a bike build I’m currently skint. The thought of doing it all with a 3kg tent, 2kg sleeping bag etc is just too much!

Hi, If you do the Innerleithen Stane, stay at the bothy

Think we’ll do just that thanks!

Can’t wait now. Scotland, bikes, bothies, singletrack, single malt, what could be better?

Currently running a raceface middle ring with no ramps or pins. Shifts fine, though not as slick as ramped perhaps. No chain suck though :)

I can’t help but think that Euro‘s bagger looks ace. It’d look even better with a set of raw carbon wiser’s on it mind.

    Halfraud’s “bike hut” dot 5.1, £5.99/125ml

    Halfraud’s automotive dot 5.1 £5.99/250ml

They’re even a rip off when compared with themselves.

    The camera never lies!

In that case I’m happy for you to think of it as BFe blue! Should cause some confusion out on the trails either way :P

Like I said, in the flesh it is a much darker and slightly greener than BFe blue, the camera made it this way! :?

    Thanks for the comments.

tommy19 – Polished up alright didn’t it! Very pleased thanks mate.

timmys and StuE – I’m still playing with the chain guide, will probably end up running it higher. I know it’s designed for use with a bash but I don’t want to cover up the cranks! So far its keeping the chain on fine.

Rickos – Powder coat was an extortionate £30 from Bournes in Birmingham :P

HansRey – Mud Guard is the mucky nutz bender fender 2.1 – Long name for a bit of plastic with some holes cut out. Works great though.

    Ta!

It’s a really nice looking bike, don’t think any scrots will be perturbed by the name and they’ll see it coming a mile off in that paint job! Think they’re more interested in the much more saleable parts than the frame itself.

Looking at the geometry and comparing 19″ versions, looks like the kili has a 4″ shorter top tube than the soul? Seems a huge difference to me?

Leku – really like the look of the Kili, but it’s a Saracen, which I associate with Halfrauds, which I associate with dropping my kegs and…. oh the pain. How did you get over it?

    Really nice looking bike though.

Well spotted that man. Wow, what a d*ckish thing to do. Suspect it goes on quite a lot unnoticed actually.

I had the superstars on my last bike. They work great. Aren’t feeling quite so smooth after 6 months though and the seals are perishing. Still, looks like they’re hard to beat…

Found the saints at Winstanley for £48, even better. Look a bit too chunky to my eyes though, they’re going on a Cotic Soul.

I find my epic avid kit slightly annoying because the fittings that screw into the bleed ports don’t have a larger knurled section for you to grab onto to tighten them. Just mean using some needle nose pliers to tighten/release if I don’t want to leek fluid everywhere.

Not a big issue if you don’t bleed very often but does slow the process down quite a bit. I’m far too tight to buy the avid kit though.

When I ride I tend to ride with guys that don’t have these, we stop at the bottom and top of every hill to raise and lower posts. It’s just part of our riding day. If I get one I’ll still have to stop and wait for them.

    Very tempted though.
