    Very curious sport though, how violence and punch-up are so common and encouraged, often (as in that clip) with the referees just standing by and watching.

    Pigface – Member
    …refs let them punch themselves out unless they fall on the floor then they will step in.

    ^^^ this

    Here is a pretty good summation:

    “Fighting is considered to be part of the game in hockey. The unwritten rules actually provide pretty strict control over what looks to be uncontrolled. The refs always step in and end the fight when one of the players falls to the ice. At that point, the fight is over. If one of the players continues to fight, he will likely be ejected from the game.”

    Hopefully, this is still referring to ‘at junctions’ and not ‘of my van’.

    I think the answer is ‘Lookalike’

    Can goddess dishearten Kylie’s 29er?

    29down = ring

    29er = ringer

    can = loo

    goddess = kali

    dishearten Kylie’s = ke

    ringer = lookalike (loo)(kali)(ke)

    I realise this may not fit with your (apparent) political views…

    However, just as a suggestion, perhaps you make up over-the-top (e.g. parody) designer labels / price tags for existing or charity shop clothes?

    E.g.
    Big sunglasses with cardboard Gucci label
    Sophia Loren type hat
    Labels on everthing else:
    Armani
    Dolce and Gabana
    Versace
    Prada

    Alternatively – improvise large cardboard (or fabric?) tube – cut asymmetric arm holes – felt-tip pen detail = leaning tower of Pisa

    IIRC, if 5000 votes had been changed in the most marginal constituencies in 1992, Neil Kinnock would have won.

    So wurdling the result may not be that difficult…

    Alternatively, the conservatives are just really good at appealing to poorly-educated people as well.

    PeterPoddy – Member
    Phew. That was a close shave then. Thank god he didn’t. 5000 very sensible people!

    Remember the 1992 election day Sun headline ?

    “In his resignation speech, Kinnock blamed the light bulb front page for his defeat.”

    The London Matathon

    Is this some sort of wrestling event?

    No, it’s to do with the thing you put on top to protect the mat – it’s called a ‘runner’.

    London slang:
    Drum = House / Flat / The place where you live

    Is it? Never heard that when I lived there!

    Then I imagine that you also did not grow up watching ‘The Sweeney’ or any of Dennis Waterman’s fine (and varied) body of televisual drama ‘Stay Lucky you Cockney Minder’. :D

    The word “drum” to describe a home came about long before the style of music drum and bass. It’s a great example of Reattachment – where a slang expression (not necessarily rhyming slang) gets reattached to a more modern phrase.

    The word drum was originally used to describe a room or prison cell or even a road. It then became confined to only mean the home. Finally this was rhymed with Drum and Bass giving its modern interpretation.

    I agree it’s down – the last bt email I received was at 10:49am

    One post on here BT Forum Email

    Not Receiving E Mails

    07-03-201511h03
    Since about 09:00 this morning I have not been receiving e mails.
    Have proven this by sending mail from my Hotmail account to my Yahoo BT account plus not received one re an Amazon order.
    Is there a general problem or is it just me??

    ?07-03-201515h26
    Same here. Haven’t received anything since late last night, and should have received a couple from Amazon and Tesco in that timeframe, plus have tested to/from Hotmail and Gmail addresses (which are otherwise working fine). Things have been fine for 2 years+ up to today, so I’m as confident as I can be that things are set up correctly.
    Everything seems to be going into a blackhole and there’s nothing on the BT status page about it.

    The letting agent/owners couldn’t provide a phone number for the plumbers only an email…

    It would be worth doing a google search of that email address – if it is the plumber’s trade email, it might lead to name / phone etc.

    The mails do look remarkably genuine though

    Thanks for the ‘heads-up’.

    Any genuine emails from PayPal will have your name e.g. ‘David Smith’ either in the header or the first line of the email.

    Both of my parents have had this. Firstly at Moorfields, and last year at the local (large) hospital.
    There is a great deal of knowledge / experience in this procedure these days.

    From memory:

    Patients weren’t allowed to leave the ward unaccompanied (or use the stairs at all) in case of falls.
    Two different types of eye drops afterwards.
    No driving for 4 weeks.
    After this, possibly worth getting an optician to verify (in writing) that your eyesight is up to driving standard.

    Anyway, clocks change to BST on 30th March – look forward to the light evenings.
