from the Kona web site it would appear the 2010, 2011 and 2012 bikes all have 44mm zero stack head sets

If it has a 44 mm zero stack head set you should be able to fit tapered forks. I have used one of the Nuke Proof head sets to do this on my Iron Horse MkIII. However I needed to modify the head set prior to fitting as the extended lower cup was too long for my frame (20mm where my frame was designed around an 8.5 mm fitting). All you need to do is replace the lower cup, the upper cup is exactly the same as a standard 44mm internal headset, because of this it may work out cheaper to simply buy a cane creek lower cup for the bike if the upper cup is in good condition.

This will throw out the angles of the bike a little as it is essentially extending the axle to crown distance by the depth of the external crown race (10mm or so) this was not an issue in my case as the bike had quite a steep head angle and low bottom bracket.

What’s wrong with a rattle can a bucket of warm water and a pergola with some plastic sheeting round it?

hora was just asking about something similar the other day. Have a look at his thread

you could try giving UKbikestore a call as they are normally very knowlegable on what you would need.

To add a little to Stumpy01’s comments trout has done the conversion for people in the past and may be able to do it for you now depending on his workload for his own lights.

Last year Trout produced a heat sink LED package with Cree XPE LED, see the tread about Lumicycle Halogen to LED kit vote above. I have used this package in combination with a Black Cat Tech 830mA driver board to really good effect. Never had the lights tested but they seem brighter than before with the halogen bulbs and battery lasts way longer.

As Stumpy said the three main things you will need to get hold of are

1 LED & heat sink package (available through trout http://www.troutie.com/)
2 Buck driver board (available soon hopefully through BlackCatTech eBay shop)
3 New switch depending on the driver board you go for (available soon hopefully through BlackCatTech eBay shop)

Trout is a really decent guy, drop him an email trough his website about the possibility of the conversion and I’m sure he will get back to you with a quote.

Drop them an email and ask, they are usually pretty good with shipping times. The two times i’ve ordered stuff it has been with me within 5 days.

If you have a friendly gas safe plumber to fit a boiler, the prices from HERE[/url] seem very reasonable.

hora ukbikestore are great for that, every time i have called to ask about a part the person on the other end of the phone has ben really knowlegable.

You sir a a jammy git for getting a 2011 5 spot frame, even more envious now. With the new 44mm inigrated headset size at the front you will be able to run tapered steerer forks with a new lower cup and race if you so decide later down the line.

Driver for the Lumicycle (buck driver) light would be different from the Lupine (linear driver) light as the batteries are different. Lumicycle battery is 14.8V where Lupine is 7.2/7.4V?? as trout describes better than me in

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/hope-vision-2-lamp-unit

As for the internals of the Lupine lamp I do not know as I have not got one. I would guess that if trout got some interest he may be able to turn down a few of the Lumicycle heat sinks to fit. The reason they are the size they are is that there is not much metal in the can on a Lumicycle lamp so if there is more metal in the can then reducing the size (tapering to fit) of the heat sink should be fine.

I have just searched my emails and have an address for BCT. If you email me (address in profile) I could pass it on and you could see if you are able to get hold of him that way. Otherwise a TaskLED BFlex driver would work for the Lumicycle lamp.

If the bulbs are the same as the Lumicycle halogen would this mod to LED’s be possible?

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/lumicycle-halogen-led-kit-vote

For the Lumicycle lamp the convertion is pretty easy if you can solder or i believe Trout can do the convertion for you for beer tokens of course.

I am presuming your £100 includes fitting etc as i bought a Salus RT 500 for £35 to replace a clunky old timer and it only took the sparky 45 minutes to wire it up including chatting to me and eating the bacon sandwich i made him.

I have heard MSE is good but as i have had no problems with using Avast free i have not has a reason to look round for something better. Avast does seem to slow the start up on my computer a bit but no where near as much as Norten used to. My computer is quite old now so if you have something new you would possibly not notice it.

I just got a new fancy digital timer thermostat thingy fitted. Heating timed to come on in the morning 40 minutes before the alarm goes off, 48 minutes before i actually get up and turns off 20 minutes before i leave the flat. at 4pm it begins to warm up the flat again to 18 degrees then at 6pm it heats it up to 20 and goes off at 10pm and i go to bed about 11pm.

If the Lupine Passubio is anything like the Lumicycle Halogen then trout has the led convertion available in the following tread.

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/lumicycle-halogen-led-kit-vote

I have done the convertion and it works ace. 😀

Now you see when you type it like that it is clear to see that

The B in BFlex would stand for Buck
The L in LFlex stands for Linear and
The Max in MaxFlex clearly stands for that other type that boosts the input voltage 😳

    RustyMac
    Free Member

To my neanderthal mind i believe the bFlex is a buck driver where the input voltage must be higher than the output voltage where as the lFlex is another type (like step up) of driver where the input voltage must be less than the output voltage.

Awaits flaming for being totally wrong

Depending on where the cable runs just now could you pull one of the cables into your loft (presuming you have one) and wire it into a splitter amp then run 3 cables from the amp 1 back to where the cable ran preiously and 2 to the 2 new TV points.

About a year ago i looked into this with my girlfriend, she is from Slovakia and was looking for a cost efficent way to send a little money to her mum each month. She was looking into setting up accounts with CityBank and Santander. At the time these were offering free cash witdrawls in europe so it may be worth a look at them.

have you had a look at the money saving expert site to see if there is any advice on that or the forum attached to MSE?

There are loads of different lights out there, for £100 you could happily get a decent handlebar mounted light and a head torch, you could also spend anything upto £500 on lights if you are that way inclined.

Deal extream (DX) will sort you out with what you need if you are just getting into night riding, they provide decent lights at bargin basement prices direct from hongkong.

Smudge from this forum has http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk and sells a slightly more refined version of the DX light for £67

Something like that combined with a feix torch for your helmet and you will be all good.

M&S has a 4k limit for any item which coveres each of my bikes, price was good for me. Quite s few people on here use them. The renewal price after a year will be crap but a new quote gets a good price again.

i failed the first time, 2 majors and 4 minors, the 2 majors were both marked at the same time and is a ong story to expalin, basically it came down to the instructor not seeing me look in my rear view mirror when i did.

For the 2nd test i deliberately set the rear view mirror slightly out so i had to move my head to see what was behind me so there could be no mistaking me looking and passed with 5 minors 😉

As wwaswas said smudge from the forum runs mtbbatteries and in the past has sold NiCad batteries, currently there doesn’t seem to be any on his site, more people are wanting Li-Ion batteries these days. He may be able to fix your old battery if he has stock of some NiCad stuff still.

Drop him an email and see what he can do sales@mtbbatteries.co.uk

Otherwise he is selling a light with the most up to date XML LED in it, this has a slightly different design to the DX one and has been well recieved by others on the forum and is £67 – link below

    http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/4.html

If this is still mre than you want to spend have a look on the forum for the numerous what lights threds that have been started in the last 2 months and there is plenty of people linking to Deal Exreme (DX) lights.

I learnt to snowboard in 1-2hr bolcks one eveing a week for 6 weeks, I am not massively fit and found this set up worked well for me.

I think I would find trying to learn for 4hrs quite tyring. When I begin to get physically tired I find I can’t concentrate on stuff as well and make silly mistakes. A couple of nights i wen’t to lessons strait from working a 12 hr shift and found thoes nights quite hard.
