I'm looking to purchase a hope vision 2 lamp unit (so that i can upgrade from an early led 2) , are they available separately and if so, where from?

Cheers.

Try Hope direct. Or send it to trout for an LED upgrade.

These guys seem to sell everything Hope http://www.mtb-direct.co.uk, the website is a little clunky but if you give them a call or an email with what you are after you might find they have or ca get what you want.

I would have thought troutie can upgrade any light. They arn't exactly complicated.

Have a look at this thread.

That points to my upgrade thread on CPF. Note it only applies to the original version (2x luxeon) version of the light.

Would be interesting to know if anyone followed that upgrade path and how they got on.

is there any reason (apart from possibly heat) that you cant put some 1000+ lumen LEDs in there with a different driver? Would you need a more powerful battery?

Guess you might need a 14.8V instead 7.4V battery, I'm using a Hope HID battery (which was 14.8V 2400mah but I converted it to 7.4V 4800mah) with mine so power would not be an issue. Only issues I could think of were heat and space to get the new driver board in.

I'm build a rear light that uses the red versions of the original hope LEDs which I bought a bFlex driver for. I've been thinking of using the hope driver board for it the rear lights instead and using the bFlex in the Hope housing (it it'll fit) to pump more juice into the MCe's. This would loose some of my increased runtime though!

Xmls and an LFlex driver is what I had in mind but will reserve judgement till seeing one opened up

that will use the 7.4 volt hope battery .

Trout out of interest what sort of output and price would one be looking at for this?

how does the lFlex differ from the bFlex?

Lflex is a linear driver a bit like a smart resistor .
so does not need the extra voltage the bflex would need .

designed so you could run one led from one Li Ion cell
or 2 leds from 2 cells
and just like a resistor the light will dim as the battery discharges
below the optimal voltage

Cost using cutters prices for the best xml U2

2 leds @ 7.14 = 14.28
LFlex £15

might need new optics as the existing may not be good with the xmls
£2 each
may need a new switch £6

Beer money ????

possible lumens of 1800
but probably run it a bit underdriven to help the batteries
The Lflex can monitor the heat and dim if needed so no worries there.

To my neanderthal mind i believe the bFlex is a buck driver where the input voltage must be higher than the output voltage where as the lFlex is another type (like step up) of driver where the input voltage must be less than the output voltage.

Awaits flaming for being totally wrong

[edit] aye just like he said up there ^^^ [/edit]

Correct Bflex is buck and input > output
Maxflex is boost input < output

Lflex is linear input <> output or a little higher /lower

Now you see when you type it like that it is clear to see that

The B in BFlex would stand for Buck
The L in LFlex stands for Linear and
The Max in MaxFlex clearly stands for that other type that boosts the input voltage 😳

So about £75 to get a 300 or so lumen light up to a 1800 lumen light!

Bargaitastic!

not sure why the extra bit the Lflex is only 20 mm dia
so must be able to slot it in the case cant be that tight in there

and he loses the thermal control too

Have you ever done anything with a Lupine Passubio lamp unit trout? Takes old style halogen bulbs.

I have not had a passubio to mess with
I am guessing its a 35 mm ID so should take a triple led conversion
depends what it is like inside the case.

If the Lupine Passubio is anything like the Lumicycle Halogen then trout has the led convertion available in the following tread.

I have done the convertion and it works ace. 😀

I have a Passubio you would be welcome to dissect! Would be great if it could be turned into a more useful lamp especially for the helmet mount as it doesn't weigh much.

Don't think the lumi conversion would work without some tweaking beyond my ken...

Parts + Beer tokens offered for any work done 😆
