No worries cheers for the heads up about 18bikes, enjoy the new BR it looks sweet.
Will you be having a Friday night build tread like mamadirt does?
RustyMacFree MemberMay also be worth an email to Si at Loco Tuning if it is a service/upgrade that you are looking at. At worst it’s a second oppinion, at best it is a better quote.
RustyMacFree MemberCan you remember off hand the OD of the seat tube on your current/old BR jedi?
I know i can always play it safe and get a 27.2 dropper and a shim, just that niggling thought in the back of my head won’t go away.
RustyMacFree MemberI know it is but i think the seat tube on the mk3 is pretty damn sturdy. I can’t remember the measurements off hand but i have a feeling the OD of the seat tube is the same as some 30.9 ID tubes. If that makes any sense.
I’ll fire off an email to 18bikes once i have all the measurements again and see what they say. Price of the job may make it a no go as i will have to factor in shipping the frame down to them too.
RustyMacFree Memberdavidtaylforth – Looks very good, didnt fancy reaming the seat tube on yours then?
jedi – nah i was told it would be sketchy for my riding
Is this a realistic possibility?
I have an iron horse mk3 with 30.0 seat tube and the options of adjustable seatposts is way more at 30.9
RustyMacFree MemberDo you have an alternate method for getting home?
I currently walk to and from work 95% of the time, only ever take the bus if the weather is really crap. It is only a 30-40 minute walk at a couple of miles. As i get into running and I am comfortable at that distance i can go a different way and head to a park on my way in and then build up to doing a lap of the park on my way to or from work.
I have always been rubbish ar runnung any distance, i used to play squash a few years back that is very on off sprint stop sprint stop which is hopeless for any distance and always struggle by going too quick then needing to stop.
RustyMacFree MemberNot really a New year fitness goal but a continuation from you winter fitness goals tread –
Things were going well, had bee riding once/twice a week through the cold weather then the most annoying cold got me in mid December, the damn thing wouldn’t go away. My fitness has dropped off big time, not aided by the excess of the festive period.
Time now to re-double my efforts so I have decided i’m going to do a bit of running to supliment my riding to help with my lack of endurance. The hope that by spring time i’ll be able to run the few miles into work and back each day then look to exetend the runs every now and again.
So does any one know any good training plans to get me into running – going from never having run any distance to being able to run 5-10K.
RustyMacFree Membertake a look at http://www.paulscycles.co.uk I haven’t used them but they have come up in a few other treads like this in the past.
He has some cracking deals on Giant hard tales that may suit
Or even this mongoose Teocali full sus
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b0s1p2162If the mongoose has too much travel then thre is this Giant full sus under budget.
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b0s1p1747RustyMacFree MemberYou may be easier putting them in a bottle and sticking that in a bottle cage.
I am slightly confused by your measurements! how are the batteries arranged? I am also presuming the battery measurement are in mm rather than cm as it would be huge otherwise.
if they are in rows of 3 do the 9 batteries not make a square end?
i have seen packs of 4 cell packs mounted to a stem but not more that that.
With the bottle idea you simply rip the drinking nozzle bit out and feed the connector through then re-pack the nozzle with blu-tack or silicone sealant depending on how permanent you want it.
RustyMacFree MemberA host of security devices on this page.
http://www.torc-anchors.com/index.php
I have used them in the past for chains and locks for my bikes.
RustyMacFree MemberWhat bike?
How many spacers was there to begin with? You don’t neciserilly have to use them all.
RustyMacFree MemberI got a mobi V-15 for christmas and one of my concerns was about the pressure it would pump the water out at. I was plesently suprised to find it is almost exactly the same as get from my mains water.
Living in a flat as well, being able to quickly rince the bike down after riding saves alot of faf droping the hose out the window when I get home.
RustyMacFree MemberUni bond stuff is lasting well in my bathroom, B and Q own brand stuff was crap.
RustyMacFree MemberGo out and buy a cheap roll of cling film, asda smart price or what ever and wrap the sun ringle box in that then stick the retuns label on to the cling film.
Heaps of stuff is shipped like this on a daily basis so shipping companies won’t think twice about it.
RustyMacFree MemberSounds to me as though the leasing agent has finally got to the owner and said you know if you do that place of yours up a bit you could get alot more money for it.
Factoring in 9 years wear and tear you should get a good bit of your deposit back if you haven’t trashed the place and can repair any imperfections before you leave.
I rented a flat with some friends where the names on the lease had just been altered every year for 6 years (BP graduates passing it on one to the next when they moved on). The leasing agents told us all sorts of crap about why we were to move out. When we spoke directly to the owner it was simply that he knew he had to do renovations to the place and during that process we couldn’t live there, also when they were finnished he expected the rental value to be significantly more. No bad referances were given and the other two guys i was sharing with at the time went on to rent a different property from the same agency without any trouble at all.
RustyMacFree MemberBy retial packaging they mean the manufacturers packaging not a CRC wheel box.
For example from CRC i just bought some endura liner shorts that were packaged in an endura box and shipped in a jiffy bag. The retail packing would be the endura box.
RustyMacFree MemberHope your home insurance is up to date 😯
Your wiring sounds like a total mess
RustyMacFree MemberI got my girlfriend some endura padded shorts that she wears under legins or jogging bottoms.
I kind of duped he into the bike shop saying i needed some new shorts and got her to try on a few pairs while she waied for me. She found ones she liked the fit of that just so happened to be purple so I got her them.
So far they have been a big sucess and she wares them evry time she is out on the bike now. Apart from them and gloves these are the only cycle specific bits of clothing she owns.
RustyMacFree Member£200 topps, at the end of the day they even though they are in cracking condition they are 2nd hand and will not have a warantee. I have picked up hoops with dt swiss ex5.1d rims for £150 in the past, people want stans rims and the rim stip makes them more desireable hence the higher price.
Just IMHO
RustyMacFree MemberThis is something I have noticed as well, the worst offenders in my opinion are the ones that have the off road lights on flashing when on the road. I have even seen some on strobe which I think is particularly dangerous as it could affect someone else with epilepsy and cause an accident.
RustyMacFree MemberI bought a second hand set of Atlas cranks (slightly different crank – bit bigger and heavyer) about 3-4 years ago with a second hand race face BB, it is still going strong. The only issue i had was i destroyed a raceface middle ring – sheared at the bolt holes. I may have neglected to check the chain ring bolts leading to the failure but it was an odd one. I have had no problems with the replacement ring i bought.
RustyMacFree MemberThat hope one in the link will be using J (regular type run of the mill easy to get hold of spokes) in a standard 3 cross pattern.
You can get hope hoops with strait pull spokes that come in a 3 cross ??? build but as others have said spokes are harder to get hold of.
I would not think radial lacing the front wheel would be a good idea (going strait from hub to rim with no crosses of spokes)
RustyMacFree Memberthis FSA one is 82g and a whole penny cheaper
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=51070
see also this tread
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/alternatives-to-an-fsa-orbit-z-headset
RustyMacFree MemberIt looks like X Fusion are going to be relesing a new HiLo in 2012, 27.2 model to have 100mm travel and the 30.9 and 31.6 to have 125mm travel.
Doesnt’ seem to be available any where yet though.
RustyMacFree MemberIf they seem like a friendly buch of chaps i’d go armed with biscuits and a box of beer. with the correct tools it should only be a matter of minutes to remove it. It will definately help if you have your bike stripped down so they can easily move it about if they want to use a pillar drill or similar.
RustyMacFree MemberAn easy out may work, some thing like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-PIECE-DAMAGED-BOLT-SCREW-STUD-EXTRACTOR-REMOVER-EASY-OUT-/260885652248?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3cbdff2318you dril a pilot hole in the centre of the damaged bolt then tap the easdy out into it, it has a reverse tread so as you tighten it into the broken bolt the bolt should begin to come out of the rocker link.
RustyMacFree MemberAs i said in my first post with the FSA headset using standard cane creek bearings you can pick replacements up for £10 -15 per pair, i never had any problems with the headset so wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
I have not used the hope one but it gets good reviews.
When it comes to the drive train check out the sales but also have a look at some of the german sites they have been very competative of late.
RustyMacFree MemberYears of trundling around with zero maintenance has taken its toll…..
This would suggest the one you have has faired pretty well.
I had one of these which uses standard cane creek bearings and it ran fine for a number of years with a bit of a clean out and re-grease every now and then.
This hope one will also fit but costs a bit more
RustyMacFree MemberIf it is standard zero stack it wil be 44mm ID, hope, nuke proof, cane creek + others do headsets suitable. If you want to replace it cheap then presuming the cups and races are ok you can just buy bearings for them. Google the numbers for the bearings and you should find them no problem, tehre are a few different types of bearings so it is best to remove the current ones and take the numbers off them directly.
RustyMacFree MemberIn regards to on going maintenance i just leave mine alone, keep an eye on them by doing the checks in the youtube videos and replace when required.
They are essentially like every other sealed bearing on your bike, wether that be in your hubs or pedals.
Opening them up can lead to damage to the seals if not done properly and that will lead to premature wear.
RustyMacFree MemberI was lucky enough to get a duff bag for christmas, used it a couple of times now and it is ace. The bag is massive and can fit laods of kit in it, the shoe bit is good for keeping the worst of the crap off other clothes and the fold out top is great for having a dry place to stand while getting changed.
RustyMacFree MemberThis any good?
http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/hope-pro-ii-front-hub-32h-qr-6-bolt-blue-id52054.html
They seem to have the evo hubs listed seperately at a different price.
RustyMacFree MemberI don’t understand why the agent you’ve appointed is charging the tenant though
Plenty agencies up here in Aberdeen burn the candle at both ends – something i have never understood.
RustyMacFree MemberIt does seem a bit fishy, i certainly wouldn’t be offering over the odds to secure a place a month before it comes on the market. Have you spoken to him, met him? Have you done any checks on the referances he has given, I always call them and google the companies to see if they exist.
Flip side is he may be super keen and have been using council housing as an affordable way to live to save for a property or something.
RustyMacFree MemberPretty common failure point i am led to bleieve. One of the lads from the club had this happen to him on the first day of an alps trip. He had his bike from new so asked if it could be replaced with an alu swingarm as he had read a number of stories of other 575 swing arms failing at the same spot.
If it is second hand i’d just be totally honest with the distributer (silverfish) and you may be lucky enough to get a discount off a replacement part, this unfortuneately is one of the perrils of buying second hand.
RustyMacFree Memberelaine anne the corsodyl mouth was is good stuff, tastes quite strong but really helped me in getting rid of a gum infection. I couldn’t do the salt water – yuck
restless – man up, the worst bit is the injections and they are only a small prick. All going well it does not take a good dentist many minutes to pull a tooth out. There will be no dentist neeling on your chest, just putting something in your mouth like they do when check scale and polish your teeth.
Stop wasting your dentist time and go in and get it done, treat yourself with a shiny new bike bit when it is done.
