Pretty sure I would. Just finished teaching my son how to drive (including going through all the theory tests) before passing him on to an instructor to double check he was ready for test. He was, and he passed.

Remember the woman on the bike who gave Trump the finger? She’s been sacked as a result: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41892544

I dread the day I’m in your shoes, Tiger, and only hope I have your fortitude when it comes. Our Lab is 11.5 so hopefully a few years to go, but since she’s been with me virtually all day every day since 8 weeks old (I work from home) I just can’t imagine life without her. Hugs from both of us – he’s just her type! (She’s always had a thing for older black labs)

My recollection was that Iain doing a weekly thread and then Jimmy started a mega-thread that led to a few rides.

I’m interested again in principle but would be a bit ad hoc ‘tag along at the last minute’ if I can make it. I’m getting out on the Pentlands a fair bit at the moment, but as and when I can manage due to work commitments. Things are squelchy and getting worse as might be expected so I’ve been sticking to the main paths of late.

Couldn’t make tomorrow, but have bookmarked the thread and will keep an eye on it :)

hard pushed to decide between William Hanson and Brian Sewell, but I think Hanson edges it as he has an additional layer of pomposity that he can apply to everything under the sun. If I ever had the opportunity to do anything with him, I would revel in offending him with every breath I took

Almost been hit by them on bike twice – once in daylight and once at dusk

Re comment about “Random ..in as much that I had never seen or heard this type of ” warning” anywhere before”, there’s a road sign for this – none in the area or on road concerned?

I use it on my G-Shock, but its part of selecting the time zone so that it automatically sets the time (ie you use mode to select the city corresponding to the time zone you are in and then the hands wind themselves to the right time for that zone, and correct nightly if there’s a signal available). Maybe your does something similar?

Re Northwind’s comment about Avalanche, that was my first trail ever ridden on the Golfie side of things, solo effort and did it in error one evening thinking it was something else. Well, I say, ‘ridden’, that’s a bit generous…. I was ready to sell on my EWS entry at the bottom, but fortunately riding some of the other trails suggested restored my faith in my (limited) abilities

Maybes. There were a few last year on Wednesday evenings starting late August into September, with 3-5 people off here.

Edit: it was early Sept – here’s the thread:

    Maybe resurrect it?

Another Wishy accent here, though I had to polish it up a bit when I moved to Glasgow to be understood, then again after moving to Edinburgh. Still recognised as Lanarkshire though (I think…)

I was reminded of this poem by the Atheist/Religion thread that was going earlier:

    Church Going by Philip Larkin
Once I am sure there’s nothing going on
I step inside, letting the door thud shut.
Another church: matting, seats, and stone,
And little books; sprawlings of flowers, cut
For Sunday, brownish now; some brass and stuff
    Up at the holy end; the small neat organ;
And a tense, musty, unignorable silence,
Brewed God knows how long. Hatless, I take off
    My cycle-clips in awkward reverence,
Move forward, run my hand around the font.
From where I stand, the roof looks almost new-
Cleaned or restored? Someone would know: I don’t.
Mounting the lectern, I peruse a few
    Hectoring large-scale verses, and pronounce
“Here endeth” much more loudly than I’d meant.
The echoes snigger briefly. Back at the door
I sign the book, donate an Irish sixpence,
Reflect the place was not worth stopping for.

Yet stop I did: in fact I often do,
And always end much at a loss like this,
Wondering what to look for; wondering, too,
When churches fall completely out of use
What we shall turn them into, if we shall keep
A few cathedrals chronically on show,
Their parchment, plate, and pyx in locked cases,
And let the rest rent-free to rain and sheep.
Shall we avoid them as unlucky places?

Or, after dark, will dubious women come
    To make their children touch a particular stone;
Pick simples for a cancer; or on some
Advised night see walking a dead one?
Power of some sort or other will go on
    In games, in riddles, seemingly at random;
But superstition, like belief, must die,
And what remains when disbelief has gone?
Grass, weedy pavement, brambles, buttress, sky,

A shape less recognizable each week,
A purpose more obscure. I wonder who
Will be the last, the very last, to seek
This place for what it was; one of the crew
That tap and jot and know what rood-lofts were?
    Some ruin-bibber, randy for antique,
Or Christmas-addict, counting on a whiff
Of gown-and-bands and organ-pipes and myrrh?
Or will he be my representative,

Bored, uninformed, knowing the ghostly silt
Dispersed, yet tending to this cross of ground
Through suburb scrub because it held unspilt
So long and equably what since is found
Only in separation — marriage, and birth,
And death, and thoughts of these — for whom was built
This special shell? For, though I’ve no idea
What this accoutred frowsty barn is worth,
    It pleases me to stand in silence here;

A serious house on serious earth it is,
In whose blent air all our compulsions meet,
Are recognised, and robed as destinies.
And that much never can be obsolete,
Since someone will forever be surprising
A hunger in himself to be more serious,
And gravitating with it to this ground,
Which, he once heard, was proper to grow wise in,
If only that so many dead lie round.

Ok Cougar, to be more exact, what I need is a series of written messages across an extended period that had been sent and received by email. I need an accessible record of message header information and content so yes, a series of conversation histories and associated records.

Mrs M is quite emphatic about that ‘squirrel’ up there ^^^ not being a squirrel because ‘squirrels have white tummies’. Her money is on a marmot or dassie. So squirrel or not?
