I am vegetarian………. prepare yourself and accept that you will be eating a lot of noodles that have some fish- or meat-based product in their base broth even when you are having ‘veggie’ tofu

aye, I thought they meant the white bits. I tried them and they made the bar too wide for me but still had a lump like with cables

I think I know what you mean although I have only seen plastic. Like a string of upside down plastic U shapes linked, to smooth off the rounded profile of the cable outer

Just make one out of an old water bottle that has a wide opening.

Cut the gubbins out of the back of the spout on the lid’s underside. The spout pops out leaving a hole which the connector will now fit through.

Cut the spout in half lengthways/vertically. The two halves can now be slotted back in place around the wire giving a nice seal around it – better than drilling a hole in a tool caddy lid

£13 light and £10 double pack of lights are both excellent. Obviously ‘Moon’ lights with different decals

    No Nonsense Heavy Duty Degreaser

Switched to this after previously using white spirit to de-gunk drivechains. It works really well and is cheap.

An old friend worked in computer game design and collaborated with researchers investigating/debunking the paranormal. He mapped and recreated The Vaults under Edinburgh old town. There was a correlation in the locations that people had supposedly seen ghosts and odd feelings of uneasiness reportedly felt by those walking around the virtual reality version.

Is there a good budget bike light that does not have an external battery pack?

see my recommendation on another, recent thread. I am very impressed with it and so very cheap

Definitely follow up the phone call with an email to your manager confirming what was said so there is a written record. Then do nothing at least until your Dr’s note runs out

This week I got an all-in-one light from Torchy The Battery Boy, which really is excellent for road riding.
Dual lights, one beam, one flood, which are controlled separately. Side illuminated too for side visibility. USB rechargeable. £35 reduced from £40 from £45.

Aeropress is essential at work. A neat, dry puc of coffee grounds to pop in the bin rather than have to deal with the slurry at the bottom of a cafetiere

Cycling Weekly’s Peak Distric Pioneer is all easily cross-able although a fair bit of road too. Took me 5 hours at a hard pace. No idea about camping though

Road, rather than MTB, seems to bring this out, verrry slightly different types of clothing for verrry slightly different weather.

long sleeve and short sleeve, shower-proof, weather-proof, wind-proof, roubaix thickness, lightweight climber, race mesh thickness

Our road club uses Sportful. Proper race cut, identical design, cut and materials as used by Tinkoff. Not the cheapest but way, way cheaper than buying the high end Sportful stuff elsewhere. Lead time is 2+ months though

Is it the poor application of the electrical tape to the bar tape, which is partially touching the bars?

I have a starchy skull cap (Castelli, as it happens) for winter warmth. What does a cap have over that? I find the stretchiness doesn’t interfere with my helmet fit whereas a cap does

What is the benefit of them? Serious question, loads in our club wear them but I’m slightly embarrassed to question their choice face to face.

Never had a problem with sweat in eyes or blinding sun. The peak blocked my vision, resulting in neck soreness, and the helmet didn’t fit as well

    The wheels on this thread?

(I got a RTD90 WITH the fancy wheels last week. It is sat in the bedroom sulking because I haven’t been on it yet since I put my back out the day I got it.)

I’ve a pin head and any Giro helmet suits me the best, non-mushroomy. I’ve had 4 different favours – both MTB and roadie ones – of Giro and they have all fitted (Small). Also have a Louis Garneau one from Evans

So, that kind of makes me think that sitting on a bike, even riding it, is going to tell me nothing so I may as well buy by spec and price and so I have narrowed it back to two bikes.

If I was in your position those two are the exact same shortlist that I would have. Both a great spec for the price and ideal for you. The latter is worth the additional 120, but the former certainly is more than adequate for you and good value. Just decide which looks nicer and if you want to spend 480 or 600.
