Excellent video! I’d watched most of that YouTube channel but had forgotten what it was called so thanks for the reminder. There must be some money in it as they go to some lengths to get them out; I recall one in Scandinavia that required a helicopter…

(And I do believe you follows me and my dugs too!)

I suspect my budget option (DT Swiss R24) are more of a road wheelset rather than cross/gravel…

Not at all. I’ve got two sets and they’ve both been faultless; I use one for (largely) road with Mavic Yksion Elite Allroad UST’s and another with 35c Panaracer Gravel King SK’s. The former I use for more tarmac based rides and the latter have seen a variety of ‘gravel’ and off-road rides. They work tubeless perfectly.

Yes, you know they are Colin.

You’ve met at least one and shared photies of them both with others on soshul meeja… ;-)

It’s the horse lorries and boxes that say ‘Horses’ on the side and front that make me wonder… as if it wasn’t obvious enough.

Hmm… wonder if that could be used as a dashcam in the car; anyone know if it can be set to simply record in a loop?

I’ve posted the above to add to this thread – not to say ‘been done before’.

Knives (as in proper ones, not cutlery) go on one of the horizontal racks at the sides of the top rack else there’s a public enquiry convened by Management… :-/

Mark from mtb batteries buys Hope ones when needed for repairs etc.

That would make sense; I messaged him earlier today as I saw that his connectors appear very similar – thanks!

Nice views, although the whole fade-in fade-out thing was annoying me before the title appeared let alone through the whole video – wouldn’t it be better just to speed some sections up?

I agree. The transitions at the start were a bit overpowering, like a PowerPoint that you just want to end… sorry!

Other than that – very atmospheric and nicely done.

Losi about to go bust apparently, no UK agent, have dropped all the micro range and selling off old stock.

Do you know where they’re selling off stock, Rusty Spanner?

I went through an RC car phase several years ago and built up a couple of Ansmann cars (a buggy and a short course) a Tamiya Lowrider Pumpkin and something else I forget, a Venom Creeper crawler, an Axial crawler, a 4WD Team Durango buggy that was faster than my vision and hand-eye coordination could manage… a few got sold on and a few got sold on. Oh, and an HPI Savage kit.

I always enjoyed the build more than actually playing with them, in all honesty..! Never got buying an RTR. Recently noticed that Carisma have come out with a new scaler that’s available as a kit and it seems like just the ticket for a long, dark and cold winter…

On EE with 4GB a month for £8.99 SIM only. Pretty much limitless texts and minutes a month – a thousand of each? Not that I use them as all I use is data and perhaps an hour a month of calls!

Just fitted Nokian WR D4’s on steel rims; swapped over last weekend and timed it well as there was a couple of frosts this week when I set off for work. They’re also pretty much a winter tyre rather than an all-year tyre. Had them (well, D3’s) on previous car and would swap over in October and back again in March/April. Got them from tyreleader.co.uk.

Scotland too, East Fife, so not exactly mountainous but we live in one of the highest villages in Fife and the roads are pretty crappy at the best of times!

I shall never, ever trust anything I see as an advert on my Instagram feed.

Bought one item that appeared from China several weeks later and then found I could indeed have bought the same for a fraction of the price as jonnyboi points out.

Came oh so close to buying some bargain Salomon shoes after seeing an advert on Instagram; a very convincing looking website until I noticed that the PayPal email address was a gmail account…

Bit on the pricey side, but i’ve been tempted to try one of these:
    https://handpresso.co.uk/collections/handpresso-pump/products/copy-of-handpresso-pump-set-silver

Anyone have any experience with them?

Yeah, I’ve had one for a few months and am very pleased with it. Breaks are so bloody short at work that with it I can at least make (what I consider a decent) espresso mid-morning. I bought the pink one as it was on offer at the time but it is a bit unfortunate in appearance…

I use pods at work and Lavazza at home; the latter is nicer and does have a nice crema.

Whereabouts in Fife are you..? They’re a bit of an investment so I’d happily make you one with it so you can see what you think. Bet you don’t get strange men offering you an espresso every day, eh..?

The entire back catalogue of Clutch should last about that long and will be better than anything else that will get recommended :-)

Edit – didn’t see the old school.

Good call! I wouldn’t say that they aren’t ‘old school’… more timeless?!

By coincidence I’ve just been looking at the latest AutoExpress winter tyre tests and reviews; new car means new winter tyres and steel rims in a few weeks.

Shame I need 205/60/R16… they’re coming up at around £95ea.

^least likely to be seen riding his bike^^^^^

    Indeed… and for two reasons;
    1 – I don’t ride as much as I used to, and
2 – I don’t ride with anyone on STW so nobody here would see me riding my bike…

My suggestion – Olight i3E EOS:

    http://amzn.eu/jjL7YhE

I’ve got two; they run off AAA’s rather than the wee buttons. I’ve had others but these have lasted way longer. Only a tenner.

Is there a difference between a gravel bike and an adventure bike?

    My interpretation is thus;
-Gravel would mean tyre clearance for 40c as suggested and more relaxed geometry than a road bike, lower BB.
-Adventure would mean the above, maybe tyre clearance for up to 2″ tyres on 650b, loads of points for mounting bottle cages, etc., and perhaps even more relaxed geometry than a gravel bike for more stability when carrying luggage on rougher terrain.

I wince whenever (and it happens regularly) when someone asks about ‘gravel’ and/or ‘adventure’ bike and several people immediately recommend the cyclocross bike they have; they are designed for riding around a muddy field for a couple of hours on tyres around the 32c mark. I’ve gone from a CAADX to a Sequoia so am talking from experience though do acknowledge there is some overlap.

Yes, SK type. The Panaracer site is vague on their tubeless readiness but they have the right kind of bead and sealed up no problem.

I’ve got the black SK’s in 32 and 35mm and AFAIK all the non-tanwall versions are tubeless – gather the newer tanwall versions might be different!

would have probably have enjoyed mine with a dropper mine tried to kill me several times!

I recall it trying to kill you some ten or so years ago at Glentress…

I had a Marin Wolf Ridge, pretty damn similar to the Whyte, in the early-mid noughties and it was indeed like riding atop a giraffe.
