It is do-able on a hardtail but you’ll be a lot more fatigued than on a full-suss. You’ll want a susser for saving you when you make mistakes when knackered!

Ditto the comments about good strong tyres. Make sure your wheels are up to it too and good brakes a must.

I did it in 2009 on a Blur XC with Pikes which was not really enough bike then won the event in 2010 on a Nicolai Helius AC (140mm susser).

Been back to the area on a Liteville 301 and that’s even better!

Do it though – a great event – and be prepared to pedal… :)

    My bike and review

Now in 160mm mode with 55RC3s on. Absolutely the best bike I’ve ever owned. Do it.

    Sun’s out, guns out![/url]

Me and mate Ewan got Sam into this on the TransProvence – he was loving it.

Wearing of wife-beaters is totally appropriate! Most jerseys don’t fray too much either.

    Win.

    Agree with the majority here.

I’ve always ridden Large Santa Cruzs, Nicolais in the past. Now on an XL Liteville 301 which fits perfectly.

    Awesome bike.

    My Thoughts

    Do it!

This happened on my Transporter – cause was a faulty Exhaust Pressure Sensor giving intermittent readings. Maybe get it changed an see if that helps?

The plastic preload one you tried should tighten things up. If not then I suspect it’s new bearings time.

I’ve now sold my SXs after getting fed up tightening this all the time as it seems to constantly work loose. Even with a spot of loctite.

Spoke to the Mavic gurus on on TransProvence who reliably informed me that it’s an adjuster for ‘speed’. I.e. you go faster when it’s looser. I have never heard such a load of codswallop.

My Pro IIs on Flow have been flawless so far.

    Echoing Driller’s comments.

Everyone I know who has had Egg Beaters has eventually canned them and gone to Shimano resulting in big grins, less trail-fail and more spare cash.

One mate in particular had 6 pairs that he rotated as at least 2 were sent off getting warrantied at any one time. He eventually tired of this (understandably) and got some Shimanos.

I’m running two sets of Shimano 520s on different bikes. One set is 3 years old and the other set is 6 years old. Plenty of clattering off rocks etc in the UK and Alps trips too. Neither are anywhere near the end-of-life yet!

I know it doesn’t help with the specifics of your question, but might save you some pain!

    About 12.5-13st here, reasonably quick.

    Agreed. Box is pretty nippy!

    Thanks for the info!

    Good man! Thanks for that.

Anyone got any thoughts on using 10wt oil instead? The air preload is known to do odd things to the setup of this fork so looking for a bit more support without preload if I can. I know Box Cooksley recommended 10wt in 55s but then he is rather good…!

Started life as a standard box van. Added second seats, bulkhead, windows. Dual purpose bike and band gear transporter. Love it!

jobro – Running 150mm 44 RC3Tis on mine but I’ve noticed this as well. Planning to get some 170mm 55s on there and upping the rear to 160mm plates for Alps action too.

geetee1972 – don’t have any more detailed bike pics but a few riding ones:

I suppose so….and at least you won’t have to worry about your friends wanting a go.

They won’t want a go of my Liteville either!

bikedibley – sorry – didn’t see the reply there!

Still loving the 301. I haven’t changed anything on it at all, which probably speaks volumes about how well it fits, rides and seems to suit me. Had it up in Torridon riding some rocky tech stuff and it just kept coming back for more. Still can’t believe the light weight for the performance. Awesome.

Yes, this beats the Helius, certainly for me and how it fits/rides.

Been trying to punt a brand new set of these for a while now. Still no interest at £300 so given the minor damage to yours, a wee bit less than that maybe?

    What Ayrshire Rossco said.

Adrian Flux pumped up the price on me with my T5 and told me this was the most competitive deal around. They couldn’t match Aviva that were £300 cheaper. Chumps.

MSP – they no longer make the 120mm version, unless you can find an older one…

chuffnuts, boltonjohn – very very nice!

Yep, they seem to handle ok with longer forks on too. Hmmmm…..

andythe rocketeer – try one if you can – the sizing is not quite the same as other manufacturers. If you’re a leggy dude, go for the XL. If you’re more long-back type then an L might be ok too.

Have a peek at the geometry on the website – all there in typically German intricate detail!

I have this all the time – very annoying – usually happens before the tyre is worn so I’m loathe to replace them.

I’ve heard it’s the sealant getting in between the ply layers – if the sealant has ammonia in it (wheel milk from JRA has this apparently) then it can delaminate the layers.

Prob ok to run it but still very annoying! Anyone managed to ‘cure’ this?

I’m now on Stans sealant – will see how that goes….
