Good to hear Weeksy. Let’s see if we can get anymore going.cokieFull MemberI’ve had similar- sold something recently. I receive an offer and then the buyer decided to buy-it-now a few minutes later. I wait for payment, nothing. He asks a week later if I received payment and to check paypal. Funds not received and ebay stating item not paid for yet. I’ve just cancelled it to relist. Not sure if he was just messing me around.
Could be genuine issue in ebay then!?cokieFull MemberI’d say Roots and Rain is a real sucess and one of the few established sites in cycling that works.
Everyone I know that rides events has been on the site to check photos, results & nemisis’.
Congrats @Downhiller !Please keep the legacy stuff too. Would be a shame to lose all that history.
cokieFull Memberhe furthest anyone has cycled in a 365 day period is 86,537 miles by Amanda Coker in 2017.
That’s 237 miles everyday without a single rest day. She’s nails! That’s a proper sufferfest.
Assume she did it in the lovely consisten climate of the southern US states.cokieFull MemberThree spring to mind-
> Riding down a staircase I’d ridden a million times. Student walks around the corner into the middle of the stairs without looking. I panick and pull a hand full of front brake. I go over bars and fall about 3 metres onto my face with clipped bike following me. I brake arm in 2 places and have massive bruising. I don’t ride stairs anymore.> First week of owning my first commuter with woeful brakes, I decide it’s a good idea to try and manual the speed bump at work. Didn’t realise how light the front gets with loaded panniers at the back. Rear brake couldn’t bring me back and when flat on my back/arm still clipped in. Winded and grazed with some of the worst bruising I’ve ever experienced. The hair still hasn’t grown back where the bruising was 5 years later.
> New bike and eager to ride i start ripping the reflectors off. I pull a wheel deflector off and it send plastic shards everywhere. One goes directly into my eye. Hospital visit and eye dye stuff show a scratched lense or something. Took a while to recover and felt like sand constantly was in your eye. Horrible experience.
cokieFull MemberYup, I’ve bought about 10 or so over the years. Mostly from trail centre photographers outside of events though. If they are good, it’s nice to have and keep for memories (and show off how (un)gnar I am).
cokieFull MemberLove the fact they worked backwards after stealing the logo to make it appear that they somehow ended up there through sketches. It’s within 7% of the Whyte logo, plus some extra antler bits. The tenuous link to Richmond Park and the stags is laughable.
So many lies in there and I’m so glad that they were called out on it.Third defendant raised an invoice for £50,000 for some PDFs of sketches.
All seem to be Stoweys friends, common theme with his companies. Probably no money actually exchanged. The designs consultancy still has the Rich energy client/portfolio on their website.
cokieFull Member20″ bmx’s are an invention of the Devil, if you master manuals/jumps/bhops etc on a 20″ you can do it on any bike, easily
I disagree with this personally. I find it much easier manualling, jumping and doing tricks on the BMX. My other bike is a 29er FS 150mm bike, so the other end of the spectrum which is essentially a monster truck by comparisson.
cokieFull MemberIf it was me I’d go for the T130 C Works 2019.
It’ll be familiar but lighter, faster, tad more travel & modern geometry.
You’ll definitly notice a difference. Any change can go to a holiday riding it in the Alps.cokieFull MemberLooking at some of the comments in your thread, I wonder if it does sound like it’s a little more gnar than I want to do nowadays*. I’ll check out videos on their page.
The blue really is a blue and you can firmly stay on the ground. Sure, there’s bits your can boost and turn into jumps, but the majority is designed to be rolled. I saw a family sessioning the lower part of blue. I also saw a chap ride it on what’s best described as a retro XC bike without issues.
If you’re watching videos just avoid ‘pro line’, that’ll put you off for life!
cokieFull MemberDo Windhill- I asked the same question; https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/windhill-on-a-hardtail/
I had great fun despite hurendous weather. The blue is super easy and flowy. The reds are also fine. Some big tabletops but all rollable if you don’t get the speed.
Push up only take a few minutes and it’s cheap to ride there. No need for an uplift.
Try something different & give it a go. Added benefit that it’s your closest location too.
cokieFull MemberThanks for the offer Kayla1- I don’t think mine are 14mm though.
My pedals are hopeless. They are just plain cheap metal ones. What do people recommend?
I’ve got a set of Nukeproof Neutron Evo Flats, but these might be overkill? BMXers never seem to ride sharp pedals..I headed to the pumptrack lastnight. It’s in desperate need of repair. Not sure how easy it is to do.
All the lips & bumps are worn away and the whole track is covered in sizable rocks. I guess it needs a sweep and some mud to build up everything. I think it’ll be diffult to build it up and let it set without the youth riding over it.cokieFull MemberThere are some pegless street riders doing normal grinds with no pegs or running longer axle nuts.
Mad! I guess it’s the cheapest option.. Load up the axle with axle nuts?
If I really get into it I’ll start investing in some proper kit.
cokieFull MemberNice- Thanks @trumpton!
There’s a pump track 5 mins from my hous :) !cokieFull MemberIt’s so odd riding without a front brake again. A few of my tricks are reliant on them.
On the list to learn-
– Drop in on a quarter
– Barspin
– Nose manual & grinding (assume I need some pegs of some sort for this?)U brakes are still the standard on BMXs, and IMO if you take the time to adjust them, and have the right pads and cable, they can be pretty great. One of the flaws is always the straddle cable and keeping it tight to stop spongy brakes – that’s where a lot of set ups fail. The below is an absolute god send for good bmx brake (straight cable) set up. No straddle, no problem.
Quick Slic Cable
Mines setup well now- I can lock up the wheel (eventualy) if needed.
Do I use my existing setup and just replace the cable with that? Might help in the future.
Can’t you retrofit V-brake for more power?cokieFull MemberSaracen Amplitude Frequency 2015- original price was £370, I got it for just over £100.
Not sure what it’s destined for- Saracen borchure says;
‘No jazz, No razzmatazz, just cracking bikes built for riding. The Pressure features a 4130
cromoly fork, 25x9t drive and is perfect for riders learning their game and ready to step up
their apprenticeship in riding. The Frequency goes one step further and features sealed bearing hubs and a full 4130 cromoly frame. Two great bikes for concrete, dirt or ramps. It’ll do me fine though. Not sure I’d want anything shorter!
cokieFull MemberPicked up a used BMX locally; Saracen Amplitude- 4130 frame, sealed bearing (apart form the front hub).
It’s a great laugh! Turns out I can still do half the tricks I learned 10 years ago.
Just need to practice a bit now.The chainstay protectors being removed. not sure what it’s doing there.
Had to do a fair bit of adjusting, tigtening and greasing but it’s great now.cokieFull Memberthere will be a new feeride area off the red (where it shouldve been built), so everyone wins
Like the jump gulley :D ? Coming full circle..
cokieFull MemberI’m not going to name drop, but some guy from a f*cking huge company drove, we met in Chichester. I sat down and I pulled out my folder of problems. They went, “Is this it? This is the problem that you have? This is business.”
Sounds like Brant! The 101 bike guru of ‘designed in the UK, manufacturerd aboard’.
cokieFull MemberAren’t Hunt just chinese wheels?
Novatech hubs on Alex rims I belive. Notthing wrong with that; reliable and reasonable weight, but they seem expensive given this fact.
With Hope you get a hub manufactured in the UK in a choice of colours with ace customer service.
I’m in the market for a new 29er wheelset, so interested in peoples thoughts and rational too.cokieFull MemberIs it worth taking a full face helmet?
Yes, especially as it’s a push/lift up.
cokieFull MemberSteel rigid 29er with 1/2×10 M6000 Deore drivetrain and 2.3″ tyres.
..But if we’re being gronwups then this-
That said if I was in such a pickle financially to have to sell my bike. I would be more worried about getting to work and feeding my kids rather than ‘which bike will do it all’
cokieFull MemberYou’ll have a blast.
I did it on my Cotic SolarisMax LS with 130mm.
I managed to ride all the trail and had no problems, it was great actually.
Overall pretty smooth, so you can carry plenty of speed.cokieFull MemberI think part of the problem is the single use type festival kit that is sold in supermarkets and the like. You can pick up a ‘tent’, sleeping bad & matt for under £20! You spend more than that in a day on food, let alone drinks. It’s a throw away society driven by price and quality.
Having spent £400 to go to a festival for a weekend they just want to get home, shower & sleep. They don’t care about £20 worth of kit that stinks is damp and has already started to rip.cokieFull MemberWell, they don’t give to the Eden Reforestation Project (at least not formally).
They aren’t listed on any of their partnerhsip pages;
> Forest Partners – $100,000 +
> Grove Partners – $50,000 – $99,999
> Sapling Partners – $10,000-$49,999
> Seedling Partners – $5,000-$9,999
> Seed Partners – $250-$4,999cokieFull Memberi know the folk at marys meals, maybe i’ll ask if it’s legit
Please do- that would be the most (g)narsasitic act to date I think.
It was one of the nice touches that added to my interest early on and lead to a few orders.cokieFull MemberHow old are you?
If over 24, just do your DAS straight away on an intense course.
Once passed, buy a bike that suits your needs and take some additional training.I wouldn’t waste your time, energy & money with a 125cc. They are good fun riding around at full throttle for a bit but they are slow, very light and feel more vulnerable.
Direct access scheme
You can get your full (category A) motorcycle licence using the direct access scheme (DAS) if you’re aged 24 or over. You’ll have to pass the motorcycle practical tests on a machine of at least 40 kW (53.6 bhp).Taking direct access means you’ll have a full motorcycle licence without previously holding a licence for a smaller bike for two years – you’ll have no restriction on the size of machine you can ride.
While you’re practising for direct access, you can use any size of motorbike bigger than a learner motorbike but you must
be accompanied by a qualified approved trainer riding another motorbike and in radio contact with you
wear fluorescent or reflective safety clothing while you’re being supervised
have L plates (D plates in Wales) fitted
follow the provisional licence restrictions.
If you think DAS could be the best way for you to get your licence, speak to your trainer about it.cokieFull MemberI’ve seen the aftermarth of this with a guy in flipflops riding a motorbike.. like a raw chicken nugget dipped in ketchup and run along a belt sander. Delicous.
cokieFull MemberDid the buyers of frames ever receive their ‘special owners t-shirt’?
cokieFull MemberThanks all!
Yes, I’ll certainly be running a rear brake. Hard to know what is good second hand and not about to die.I’d rather spend a little more and get something nice.
cokieFull MemberCheers all.
Spotted a WTP that was £650 down to around £250.
Seems good value. Just not sure how abused it’s been.cokieFull MemberWould anyone like one for the £28 + postage?
If not, I’ll just return it to Wiggle.cokieFull MemberYup, mine just arrived- 20mm here too. Nice quality though!
Need to decide whether to keep it now.
FYI:
– Centre lock
– Shimano freehub
– No paperwork whatsoevercokieFull MemberSomething about Occult Tattoo
Companies House has them as dissolved as of 2nd of April, so that explains the empty premises.
Why are people not getting refunds when they’ve paid with CC or Paypal? What’s holding you back? Must be a good warning in here for people going forward with purchases (not just from Sick!).
