  • Winter wheels (road) – stay handbuilt or go factory?

So, my winter road bike needs to be re-rimmed (so to speak). I use 105 (5600) hubs, which, like all Shimano hubs, are great.

Do I spend out on having these wheels re-done (in which case, any rim better than Open Sports?), or pick up some reasonably priced Aksiums or similar.

    Thoughts?

I’d say get some planet x model b’s cos they are light and cheap, then just bin em after winter.

105s plus Mavic Open Pros for me, on winter trainer and backup cross bike.

Ace – an even split between factory and re-doing my current wheels.

    Any more?

I’d just put a cheap factory set on.

I’ve had two winters out of a set of Shimano rs10’s and they still run smooth.

+1 for planet x model bs. I’ve been running mine for a year on my road bike which i rode through most of last winter (minus the snow) and they still spin great.
