I think special mention has to be made for David Thewlis. This is utter genius. Apparently, like a lot of Mike Leigh films, it wasn’t scripted. This is ad-libbed

And it’s at Bruce Willis where your credibility as a critic fell off.

I love everything that Jim, Broadbent does, however my favourite at the moment is Johnny Depp. He seems grounded too and an all round good person, considering his fame.

Seems many people definitely lean towards the mainstream multiplex type actors…

Paris Hilton – not that many actors have been watched so many times repeatedly without boredom kicking in.

    Gerard Depardieu..
    Vincent Cassel..

they are two people that I really enjoy watching
I don’t really enjoy films very much.. especially the formulaic Hollywood bile..

There are only 11 plots and many variations on the theme in Hollywood according to a poncey film student that I once had the misfortune to be speaking to..

I’ve got a feeling that he was correct though..

I prefer a book or if it has to be a film.. something homegrown or independent.. there really doesn’t seem to be any great call for acting ability these days though but I have to admit to preferring it this way..

Forgot to mention William H Macy.

Sam Rockwell for Green Mile “Me & You, Barbeque…”, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

Brad Pitt is a bit underrated – I pissed me pants at him in Burn After Reading.

Wow, that is odd!! In an online forum open to the public, the responses tend to return with the actors seen in the films seen by the most people…. how on earth did that happen? 🙄

I hate the term “star” and, like most people, my favorite actors are those that are in my favorite films. Therefore, my list is probably as follows:

    Morgan Freeman
    Christian Bale
    Kevin Spacey
    Sir Ian McKellen
    Brad Pitt
    Kevin Norton
Alan Alda – primarily for the M*A*S*H tv series

I’ve probably forgotten a load more too

The dad in Rita Sue and Bob Too.

    Gerrout!

Hard to argue with that. Best single performance in a film that I’ve ever seen.

As far as Hollywood goes, I’m surprised that there’s only one mention for Johnny Depp ❓

Who can argue with Michael Douglas’ performance in Falling Down?

However, most everything else he did was a bit crap.

For me it has to be Tom Hardy.

Everything I’ve seen him in he portrays his character perfectly and manages to really draw you in.

Excellent in Wuthering Heights, Bronson and The Take.

That’s probably because we aren’t as intellectual as what people who watch pretentious indie/arthouse shite like to think they are.

    FTFY

+ 1 for Brad Pitt & Robert Carlyle.

Toby Kebbel worth a mention also.

Watched Trans America again last night, she’s not really a ‘star’ but Felicity Huffman gives a fantastic performance in what must have been a pretty challenging role.
