  • What's the best way to share routes on an OS map ?
  • I log my rides on Endomondo so anyone who’s friends with me on Endomondo can see them on Google Earth.
I post some on Garmin Connect where anyone can see them on Google Earth.

How do I make them visible on an OS map ?
I tried that new OS site and it doesn’t work for me. Something to do with Chrome and Silverlight I think.
I’ve tried Bing/MultiMap. I can draw and export a map, but I can’t import one.
I can save a Memory Map map as a .jpg and post it on line, but it can’t be zoomed or scrolled easily.

Wheres the path will let you import gpx files, not sure about sharing once they’re uploaded though.

If it’s something you’re going to be doing regularly you could look a signing up to OS Openspace to display OS mapping on your own personal site like this http://www.ebygomm.ourownlittleworld.org/mapping/osmap.php?f=DalbyApril2011.gpx

    Graham,
I think you need to recheck your settings on endo, I can’t see any of your routes.

Hilldodger, BikeHike does what I want, except that I can’t see how to link to a map so other people can see it.

Ebygomm, Where’s The Path is very similar to BikeHike with no way of sharing a track. That OS site looks unbelievably complicated compared to Endomondo or Garmin Connect and I still can’t see how to upload a track from file or GPS.

Mick, you should be able to see last Sunday’s Wyre ride now I’ve altered the privacy settings.

Have you tried the new OS mapping dooda? Had an email through about it recently, haven’t played much with it yet, seems a bit basic but worth a crack?

EDIT need to read the original post! Worth installing silverlight and getting the site working, might solve your problems!

I also use RouteBuddy for OSX and on my iPhone, which works well.
Hope this is of some use?!

    Upload

It’s not straightforward to set up, but once it’s up and running it couldn’t really be much simpler

    Thanks Ebygomm.
Can everyone else see this ?

I’m still confused though. Isn’t that your website I’ve just uploaded my route to, not some open website like Garmin Connect ?
The uploading part its self was easy enough, maybe I should make the effort to get it working on my site, ( http://www.aecmilitant.co.uk since you ask)

Mulacs, I’m currently installing Silverlight. I’ll see if that gets the OS Getamap site working for me.

I can see your map, are you sure that’s your route because it looks like a giant squiggle to me!?!?! That’s some route you’ve got there… I’m having problems with Chrome on the OS website, will not finish loading. Works ok from Fleefox however…

    Yes, that was the route.
You have to do a lot of squiggling to get a 32km ride in an area of 5x3km 😀

I’ve been having a go at this and it’s way beyond my limited html coding abilities.
I’ve done a straightforward copy & paste of ebygomm’s page on to my site,
http://www.aecmilitant.co.uk/mapupload.html and that bit seems to be working.
Attempting to upload a .gpx file gets a 404 error. http://www.aecmilitant.co.uk/upload_file.php

Can anyone do me a bare template for what I want please or explain what I need to do ?

I’ll have a look at this tonight and see if I can help at all.

Have you signed up to OS Openspace and got an API key?
