    you can set up the Edge 305 to do that, I have never bothered though, you can often see when there's a fork in the track…

    You need a mapping GPS.

    The old garmins are compatible with the free OSM (Open street maps).
    You can download the whole of the UK or small parts of it with road and off-road maps available.
