    Yeah, The Revenant.

I watched that the other day because it came up on Sky Cinema, dour, slow, drudge.

I turned it off after 40mins, you’re going to tell me now that it only got going after 45mins aren’t you.

Interesting that I saw the revenant at the cinema and really enjoyed it but you I do think it should have had a bit more enthusiastic editing, could have lost half an hour or so and be better for it. I remember thinking that I wouldn’t have enjoyed it at home because the cinematographic detail would be lost

Logged on here to say The Royal Tenenbaums as couldn’t remember the name of it earlier. Agreed with Juno too.

The Revenant. Well shot. Couldn’t understand a word Tom Hardy said. Kinda just the same thing throughout …. Get attacked, escape, survive, get attacked, escape, survive indispersed with crawling and grunting. Meh

    Lock Stock- my favourite film.
Seven- one of my favourite films.
    The Big Lebowski- classic entertainment.
Gone With The Wind- utter tripe.

Another vote for Withnail and I. Sorry to follow the herd but….

I saw it when it first came out in the late 80’s hated it then, still can’t bring myself to watch all the way through it even though I have tried just in case I missed something. I like some of of Paul McGann’s work but….. Dreadful.

I got lots of shushes etc. in our local cinema for laughing and snorting most of the way through the Lord of the Rings the return of the King, which many seem to have regarded as quite good

On the other hand, The Usual Suspects is one of my favorites. It just shows different things are appreciated by people in different ways

Edit: oh yes, Blue Velvet . Didn’t like that at all either.

    I’m becoming a grumpy old man aren’t I

It isn’t the cinematics are stunningm, some good acting but by god they dragged the story line out and the boring “oh my god her survived again” got really silly.

    Inception.

Standard fight/flight action flick with a bit of sixth-form-common-room-stoner philosophy thrown in.

Yeah yeah, all very deep: “What if, like, we think we’re awake, but really, we’re still in a dream, man?” but still ends with a goodies v baddies firefight on skis.

    The Matrix (see above)
I Heart Huckabee’s (the only film I’ve ever left before the end)
Terminator 2,3,4 (or whatever) the original however is a masterpiece 🙂

Skyfall and Spectre – similarly unimpressed. I’m listening back to Kermode and Mayo’s podcasts from then, and struggle to reconcile their reviews with what I thought of them.

The Hateful Eight. The first half is… fine, bit too much Tarantino talking, but not bad. The second half is just awful.

You’re all wrong apart from deadkenny,

Highlander 2, very nearly. Awful, awful film. Highlander though, no way. Excellent film.

I’ll offer No Country For Old Men. Massively hyped by a work colleague, it was mediocre at best and then when it finally started to get interesting the credits rolled.

X:Men First Class. I like superhero films, I like most of the cast, but it’s awful. Hammy acting, terrible script, some absolutely ludicrous scenes (I will now kill the two soldiers who brought my mother into the room where you killed her! But I will leave you alone because you’re a Plot Point!) bad visuals, no real attempt at a plot. Absolute pish.

Genuinely surprised to see Alien on the list. It was unlike any film before it. I couldn’t sleep after watching it the first time.

As for ET, sorry but you are dead wrong. Don’t feel bad but you may need an intervention!

Don’t know how I forgot this one. Sad to say I bought that one on a recommendation! Absolute crap…

Wolf of Wall Street – Utter utter tosh

Best film of the last few years… Couldn’t disagree with you more there!

Quantum of Solace – fell asleep at the cinema!

Not a great Bond film for sure, but not that bad.

    Skyfall and Spectre

Spectre was good. Skyfall was superb! But then I’m a Bond fan, and the grittier the storyline the better the Bond IMO.

I’m going to get grief for this but.
    Godfather trilogy
    Casino
    Good Fellas
Like one film repeating the same thing and they just blur together.

No Scarface whilst you’re at it?

All brilliant films FWIW! There’s nothing better than a good mob film, and these are all very good mob films!

Wolf of Wall Street – Utter utter tosh

2 of the greatest of all time [/quote]

It really isn’t. In a nutshell:

    swearing
    tits
    drugs
    GO ON, LAUGH
    swearing
    tits
    drugs
    GO ON, LAUGH
    swearing
    tits
    drugs
    LAUGH YOU MORON VIEWERS, LAUGH
    swearing
    tits
    drugs
    GUESS WHAT, TIME TO LAUGH

Scorcese has made good things, but comedy is apparently not one of them.

Enjoyed all Craig’s Bond films. Sometimes I feel like they were trying to cram too much stuff in, often at the expense of the storyline, but at the end of the day they were good romping yarns. And Craig is an excellent Bond.
